Here I am again talking about photo etching! It's becoming an obsession? I would like some ideas on how you construct the Mark 8 16 inch gun director from photo etched parts, for the Tamiya Missouri 1/350. Using WEM PE I tried to add the etched parts dipoles to form the radar however as hard as I tried I could not not get them to look uniform. It was infuriating because I used the excellent Fine Scale Modeller publication which does show the antenna constructed. It doesn't show how this particular item was modified from the stock part (the stock part is G36 the top of the conning tower). Whilst I appreciate these are done by professional modellers I do like to get mine as close as possible to the real thing. I also know this is a long shot as its a very specific subject.
Many thanks for reading.

The problem with PE parts is that they have no 'body' being flat in section. I have seen radar scanners produced using thin rod as the dipoles instead of the etched parts as they look better. The rest is just choosing the right adhesive, rather than superglue try PVA or two part epoxy.

Appreciate that. Good tip, never thought of thin rod. Have to be almost the thickness of fuse wire. Thanks again.

The only way you can strengthen flat PE is to solder a thin layer of solder over the length. But this takes time and a soldering iron of course.
THCs Idea is a good one if your having trouble, you can use the existing PE to get the right lengths ect.
Hope you get sorted.
