Hi all,
I'm looking for some opinion/expert guidance/thoughts on the "red orange" used on the F-86Hs of this unit. The photos I've seen, and there are very few of them, seem to show a red rather than a dayglo orange. Do any of you USAF experts out there know? I've seen other target tugs (F-80s, for example) painted in a dayglo red. Would these have been the same?
I'd really appreciate your input as my next challenge is a Special Hobby F-86H!!! Thanks a lot.
Martin
PS: my other challenge is the cockpit canopy!!!!

Ay up Martin - I suspect the colour is actually "International Orange" (FS 12197 Available from Xtracolor as X104).
Would love to see it when it's finished - you've got a heck of a job on painting around all the stencils !
Cheers,
Haydn.

Thanks Haydn. Yes, I'd pretty much got to that with the guidance of Duncan Curtis. You are right, it is quite a project, for me at least . It is where I might cheat a bit. Not all of them had the stencils on the natural metal. For example, and probably the one I will model, 53-1304 had black stencilling directly on to the red/dayglo. I intend to use silver stripe decals for some of it too. Fingers crossed! I'll let you know how it goes. Far bigger is the challenge of blending the Hasegawa F-86D cockpit I have to get it more accurate. I will also use other bits from the -D such as the elevators and vortex generators that are not present on the Special Hobby kit. Martin

Having put out many appeals for advice it think I am settling on the use of Humbrol 82 Lining Orange with a drop of red added, as it would too orange otherwise. M
