This thread is similar to the "Testors" topic .....
A few years ago AeroMaster, the superior decal people, produced a range of acrylic paint. Now I've always been a Humbrol man, but their Intermediate Blue was a perfect 1/72 Blue Gray .... and not only was the colour good, it brushed - yes, brushed - like a dream. The remnants of that bottle has been watered down twice, and it still works! Once dry (15 mins) it won't wipe off and it doesn't lift on recoating.
Of course, I'd hardly got the stuff home before they sold the range off.
Question: WHO TO? Who is the current supplier of the stuff AM used to make? The reason I ask is that samples of Extacrylix and Vallejo simply aren't up to snuff. Both on detergent-washed (and rinsed) and on energetically-wiped substrates (wing interiors, new kit) these lesser breeds come off on a rag even after 24 hours.
I seem to remember the buyer being Italian and cutting the range down to a few generic colours. Anybody who knows will be of huge assistance to a chap whose Missus can't stand the smell of turps ..............
Regards, Bri.

as far Iam aware the range is now dead and buried, warbird colours are the ones you are reffering to I think, have,nt see them for some time. for alternatives try lifecolour paints, I have just moved over to them for the very same reasons, spray and brush well (2 coats) and no lifting when masking. they do take a little longer to dry though and I would reccomend the thinners sold by cammet. do.nt shake them took much otherwise you end up with a jar containing a lot of air bubbles. i still have some aeromaster bottles, 10 years old and still uasble much lamented demise. hope this helps Roger

Bri, Why don't you try Xtracylics ? If you want to know why I do recommend them, pls have a look on www.agama-model.cz > reviews - You'll find several positive reviews and a download full review article from me stating my experience at the end of page. Good luck, Rolf

I have had no problems with Vallejo paints at all - they have their own peculiarities like all paints but the Model Air range sprays straight from the bottle like a dream (thin coats which dry in minutes) and can also be brushed on small areas. They even do a metallic range which also sprays well and looks very good once dry although they take a little longer to dry. The Colour range is a little thick but with a little thinning brush extremely well - now starting to replace all my old Humbrol and Revell tinlets with Vallejo.
If all else fails I would give Vallejo another try if I was you.

Well, thanks chaps: As I said, I gave both Xtracrylic and Vallejo a go. Both white, both neat and both brushed, - for the very good reason that I can only really try spraying in the summer, 'cos the garage is too cold! - and neither was anywhere near as good as the Aeromaster.
Maybe white isn't the best choice, but on bare pastic (one washed, one wiped well with rags) the Xtra was not only streaky - not surprising with white - but gloss. Vallejo was also streaky, though matt. Both were sufficiently robust after 24 hours, but I'd got used to Aeromaster being scratch proof after 15 mins!
Am I going to have to start priming after all these years of a quick wipe with turps? If so, with what? - yes, I have used auto spray cans but they need lots of masking, several coats, sanding down between and afterwards and life's too short! My best results so far have come from priming with matt enamel - and the whole purpose of the exercise is to lose the smell of turps from the house ......
I'll get it right one day -- Bri.
