I have problems airbrushing this paint - sometimes ! For example, I was recently painting a Sea Hawk in extra dark sea grey. I use white spirit to thin the paint and I normally put the entire tinlet into the jar - so all the pigment - and then thin so that it will spray. It was obviously too thin because when it was on the wings I ended up with the plastic visible around the edges of the wings! So what should I have done - a thinner coat then wait for it to dry? How long? I had it as thin as it was because it wasn't very keen to exit the air brush before!
I now use Halfords white plastic primer as a base coat. When I have used Humbrol paint in the past it seems to thin better (with white spirit) and, because it is matt paint, I can see it dry more easily.
Is it just a case of patience and building up a coat over a period of hours? - probably all day!!
I would really appreciate your comments because I have always thought myself quite good at getting a decent result!
What did I do with the Sea Hawk? I wiped the paint off with more white spirit, brush painted it with Humbrol 27 and then airbrushed a coat of Xtracolor EDSG on top, and it worked!
I use Xtracolour exclusively. I find it easier to use if I mix a couple of drops of laquer thinner (cellulose) into the paint. This makes it easier to spray and slightly quicker drying. You are correct though, it can take several coats over a few hours to achieve a good finish, you have to be patient with Xtracolour.

The Hooded Claw: opadag, it is an old kit now. So slow and steady, test fit every part before you glue them up so that you're sure of their location and that they fit properly before you commit.

peach38336: Old icky check if you are using the chinese made Humbrol. I've had some bad experiences with them. Check the Tim says "made in the UK" and at least you are on a better footing.
