I'm suffering blockages in the paint flow when using Xtracrylics - today with Night Black thinned with water, a couple of weeks ago with Flat Varnish thinned with water.
Cleaning up after the varnish I noticed it was definitely sticking to the needle inside the airbrush. Not so obvious today after the black but it seems like it doesn't like our summer temperatures (20C/68F today) as I used a colour cup (not the usual jar) and it skinned over in very few minutes. Same must be happening on the needle as I used two airbrushes (Badger 200 and Clarke double action) which both spray water ok. It's costing a fortune in airbrush cleaner as well !
I've previously used Tamiya acrylics with no trouble but wanted the FS shades from Xtracrylix - maybe I should have gone for enamels ?
Any advice much appreciated, Ross

Hi Ross Not sure, but water is not always the best solvent. For example I use IPA for Tamiya to best effect, but I find water is ok Vallejo...
Has it worked for you before?

Xtracrylix react badly to IPA, I tried it once without thinking as I use IPA for Tamiya and it went all sort of gooey. Water is the thinner recommended on the bottle.
It's been ok before, I did a Canberra with the black previously (that's why it got thinned) but in the winter. Ross

Try thinning with distilled or de-ionised water (battery top-up water).
Tap water has loads of contaminants and chemicals in it which can react with paint. Some of these can cause clots and some even change lighter colours. This is particularly true if you live in a 'hard water' area.

Having only used Xtracrylix about four times I have found that thinning with de-ionized water is the best way to use with a spray gun, same as seamfiller . I only use water with Vallejo and Life Color paints in a Spraygun. Also filter the water before use, this works for me. Another good thinner is Hannants thinners, they also seem to go well with water based and Tamiya paints, but not tried with Xtracrylix paints.
