I have just tried to air brush my Chev Nomad using Tamiya Chrome Silver and Tamiyas thinners but the result well was absolute nil no paint came out at all , the ratio I used was a 50/50 mix which I'm lead to believe is right, air comes out of the brush but no paint and it has been cleaned properly, I've done a double check to make sure it is clean by doing it all again but still nothing wot the heck is going on or is the silver particles too thick to pass through the air brush ?. I think you have sort of answered your question there Dingo! The silver is generally thicker than non metallic paint, therefore you need to thin it more. The 50/50 is only a guideline, you need to alter the ratio to suit the paint, maybe as much as 90 (thinners) to 10 (paint). Start thin but spray onto scrap to see how it covers, using several thin coats. (clean the airbrush between coats, metallic paints seem to separate very quickly so you could block the airbrush easily).

Andrew funny thing happened after I placed this thread on here I got this silly idea to pull my air brush apart and give it a good clean, it turned out that the guy who owned it before didn't clean the thing so I gave it a wipe with just a dry cloth no cleaning fluid or any liquid at all then i went outside to my compressor set it at 15-20 psi and bingo it worked so I quickly got my Nomad and hit it with the silver paint, the results R up on the car thread to see but remember it is just the first light coat.
