Nige A slightly off topic question. On the pics at the german airbase, am I right in thinking that is Princess Royal barracks (I think thats what it became) which was formerly RAF Gutersloh as it looks d**n familiar to me. If it is brings back some memories for me as I spent three and a half years there with the RAF ;D before it was closed and handed over to the Army

Nige.
have you tried the King website for information. They have drawings of some of their trailers. The stuff I sent you on the Nicolas trailer was no good then. That's a more modern trailer than the one you want.

Hi Pat and Mike
I was racking my brain,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, what little there is left of it anyhow,,,,,,,,,,,, as to where the pics were taken tonight when I was chattting with my brother in law about his regular army days and my TA exercises in Germany. You confirmed my own thoughts. On that year's exercise I came down with a heavy flu just as we were heading in for two days R and R and arrived there almost a shivering lump of snott wrapped up in my slug knocked totally out for the count. R and R was saved only by copious amounts of whisky and cherry brandy and bottles of night nurse!
Accommodation for the two days was in the Hangers on the foam mats,,,,,,,,,, Oh what luxury!!
That was also the year that the Newcastle TA Loggies lost their complete load of return duty free booze and fags on the autobhan when a German waggon and drag unit ran up the back of their 4 tonner on the way back to the ferry. They were not happy bunnies and took it out on the poor driver and co-driver of the 4 tonner. Nowt they could have done about it and they had neck braces and arm slings out of the bash.
I think it could have been 1994 or 95. Did the Army have a couple of Lynx helos based there too around then? I can remember some of the base staff playing around with RC helos and stunt aircraft in the evenings flying off part of the tarmac.
We went from there to the abandoned airfield and sat for a couple of days doing nothing, we were told due to lack of available fuel for the exercise.
Am going onto Flashearth to see if I can place the buildings

Pat and Mike If I have my bearings correct, the pic is taken from the hard standing (pans) in front of the hangers, fourth building in from the east end of the runway along the taxiway, looking south east towards the runway itself (accommodation hanger out of picture to my immediate left. Got bussed into the city but since I was still poorly and p***** drunk, suprisingly don't remember much about the look of the city.

High winds again here in Scotland but I was snugg in my wee huffin hoose tonight. Tackled the King trailer's locker this time taking my dimensions from my own, hand drawn set of plans again. Thought about using plasticard again but I decided to use more of the tin foil as I like the thinness of it. Scribed the bend lines then cut out all the sides together as one. This did not work out well for getting all sides to fit properly though. Luckily one end piece fractured off due to over bending trying to make the ends fit in. After a wee bit pondering, I figured I should just cut out new end squares 1mm shorter all round but with folding tabs to all four sides to glue in the square tube of the locker. An angle piece formed from the foil was added to make the junction and reinforce the long rear face to the floor. The locker needs doors and hangers to each end which I think I will use plasticard to get a bit of rigidity where it joins the chassis rails Locker in position for dry fit. Will fill and sand the end cap junctions with the tube to blend it all in Hope you like Nige

My new third hand from the school chemistry lab came in handy for holding the trailer at just the right hight and angle. This was thrown in for nothing with all the other bits i bought It is steady enough to take the weight of kit plus metal square to set locker hangers Locker placed only to set distance and will only be fixed once everything is painted. It is certainly a handy tool that can be set to varied heights and angles and is quite tall to handle large 1/24 models but yet is very compact to store away Nige :-H :-H :-H

At my build rate? I have a heck of a load to do to the Truck yet too and life is getting in the way!!!!!!!!! Will put a push on the build but I can't promise a paint job as I don't want to rush it. Have a lot of learning to do with the airbrush as I have wimped out using it so far for something like this. Will have to do a couple practice runs on other less important cheap and nasty work first. Your work rate puts me to shame. Nige
