Hey Tim, sorry I have been so absent but, let's face it, this forum is pretty dead. I have been heavily involved in getting my Strategy Games club set up at college. I now have 14 members with about 16 armies between us, mostly 40K stuff. I am currently working on my Harlequin army, including some rather nice (If I may speak so about my won work) Harlequin jetbikes with sculpted Dragon Heads for the main hulls. As I say i got tired of posting things in here with no responses. (Check my updates thread for instance) For those who don;t know I was over the moon when Vogon 1 got first place and editor's choice on SFM:uk Cheers. P. Some of us still pop in here now and again to see whats happening but your right, generally the scifi section is a bit on the quiet side.. ok, a lot on the quiet side... As to your win with the Vorgon it was indeed a well deserved one (you get the B5 station ok?) Warhammer doesnt do a lot for me, its nice to watch it played but painting those things hurts my eyes. did like that Eldar plane thingy.. lovely choice of paint scheme.. BTW, that a Claymore your holding in your pic? Budgie

Not so much the eyes as keeping my hands still is my problem! Just when you think you have it right getting the eyes, either the paint has set on your brush, or it is to wet and goes everywhere, or one of the family needs something NOW!!!

Hiya Budgie, yeah I got B5 thanks VERY much!!
The sword is the WETA Anduril replica. Not the el-cheapo knock off, this one is direct from WETA Workshop many thanks my lovely wife!!
I have a growing collection of swords, I currently have a replica 12th century Broadsword, a replica 15th Century Duelling rapier which is balenced and has been heavily used by myself in tourney's. Anduril, several katanas and wakisashis including one very nice edged blade katana made by those wonderful RAVEN armoury folks.
Every year I try and add another to the collection.

Paul, excellent stuff, hope the additional decals are of use too, I never got the chance to try them out but I have heard good reports..
I had previously built the station for a mate and its a nice kit but it does need a bit of plasticard/filler under the front section and the main solar panels are a little thick for my liking..
As to the swords I have a mate who is a HUGE LotR fan, has all the United Cutlary stuff including the staffs and helms as well as those lovely gaming minis.. (Balrog is stunning)..
I recently purchased a Conan "Atlantean" sword which is based on the first movie.. well pleased witrh that but im changing the colour of the hilt slightly and adding a more accurate grip to it to improve it more (you how big a Conan fan I am)..
Perhaps we can clash swords one day...

Kicking this back on track a while. Dawn of war adds something to the GW 40K genre but also leaves a great deal out. The single player missions are a good primer in the tactics involved but I question if they work on the tabletop. What isn't there? Well most of the races are missing. We get Marines, Chaos, Eldar and Orks. We don't get Tyranids, Necrons, Tau, Dark Eldar or Kroot nor really the Imperial Guard, though the latter do appear in the game mainly as cannon fodder! So, what do I gain as a modeller. Actually some understanding of the role of the pieces in the GW scheme of things. Dreadnoughts in particular are very well filled out and the applications they fill in the army is clarified. The format of your combat squads is also given strength by this game. It is very much hoped by myself that there is an expansion pack featuring the 'missing races' and hopefully a new single player campaign based on one of the more alien races.
Meanwhile the abiities of the Tau have been expanded with the addition of Tetras and Pirranas from Forgeworld. If Tyranids are more your thing, check our the huge beast Forgeworld are to release at their website.

Hi folks, well I have been working on my Eldar Harlequin army, these are only painted to gaming standard so don't expect Golden Demon standard, you can see them here.... www.dragonyard.co.uk/harlequins.htm

Oh NO! Not more poncy Elves! And the opponent surrendered in three turns? What were they? Hobbits? ( ;D) Seriously, nice job Paul! Wouldn't have been my choice for an army. Lean more towards Tyranids and Necrons however I feel that the game rules seem to favour the Space Marines somewhat. I mentioned Dawn of war in my last post. Having played it for some time now I can see some of the holes in it. The Space Marines don't get their bikes! Now anyone who has been hanging round wrokshop products long enough knows that this was meant to be an essential core element of the Marines. Means that if you want to field Dark Angels you can't use Ravenwing in its fullest extent. Likewise, Deathwing doesn't appear in white. Minor niggles, but there you go. I know little about the other armies represented but at one stage the Orks get a Squiggoth! This is available as a forgeworld model and as far as I know is an armour expansion piece. Hey! No fair! Since the Imperial Guard appear in the game along with Lemann Russ tanks, how about a nice little Baneblade?? Workshop are already teasing about an expansion for this game, but are asking which single missing race should be included! How about all of them! Still the game gives modellers plenty of new ideas for senario modelling and I now have a craving for a nice 'little' Defiler! ;D

Having seen the 'wee beastie' in action at SMW my wife quickly suggested that this is what I needed to drive the pesky kids out of our street with their damned football! ;D If only I could get ammo for it! Have to say I was disappointed by Forgeworld this year in that they had come with very little stock. I was told that they hoped just to take orders to mail this year. Not a good move on their behalf.

I know what you mean, I telephoned an order in for collection at SMW, so I didn't browse as much as I would have, but they seemed to be concentrating on the Big Beastie to get people round the stand. Don't think it suceeded too well... Looking in the latest White Dwarf I see that GW have been recognised as 'educationally beneficial' by the TES... And are working with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme too. Time to get IPMS hitched to that particular bandwagon methinks. I shall be displaying some advertising material on ther Armour SIG with the Warhammer 40000 stuff as it really brings in the crowds in a way the green tanks don't...

If you could see what my Imperial Guard Armoured company and Infantry companys do to there opponants you might reconsider the weak armaments comment.....on the other hand I have to agree with the Space marine comment ;D

Really horrifying. I take a break from this forum and you all clam up! Ha! No mention of the new tyranids. I have been goaded into rejoining and since I spent money I am back! New projects! Chaos space marines! Iron Warriors legion! Tons of fun. So far one squad and one Obliterator finished and final touches to a predator! Planned expansion with another squad, Raptors, heavy weapons team and rhino! More soon!

Pathetic! C'mon lads and lasses! GW and Forgeworld have been really busy! Recommended is the new Tyrannid Carnifex! The options on it are simply stunning even if you don't game. I am fairly sure that Forgeworld's Hirodule has inspired this marvellous beast. The GW website does not do it full justice but it seems to be becoming the favourite of the stores displays!
GW have put some thought into the re vamp of the Tyrannid range and the kind of monsters you can now create are worthy of a look for the modeller who does not wish to game.
