That's a really nice model Geebee. And it looks so much better for doing away with the garish chrome. Love these old cars and it shows that you shouldn't just dismiss old kits out of hand. I'm currently working on the ancient AMT/Matchbox Thomas Flyer and I'm finding that it's put the fun back into modelling even though it would never qualify as a great kit in a million years. Seeing how good your model's turned out makes me wish I'd got a Mercer too as it's a very similar car to the Stutz. Saw one at Telford and was tempted but thought I'd give the Thomas a go first. Lovely stuff and thanks for sharing! Best regards Dave

Nice to see a 'Golden Oldie' built up so well. Lovely model Geebee! I think that this kit originated from MPC. The styling does look a bit like the Mercer Raceabout of the same era. Bandai did a very nice Mercer kit in 1/16th scale back in the 70's.

Bandai did a very nice Mercer kit in 1/16th scale back in the 70's. The Stutz and the Mercer did look very like one another, the rear wheel arches were different and the front wings more rounded, and I'd love to find a 1:24th scale model of one, it was originally produced by MPC, but airfix released it at a time when the parent company of MPC (General Mills) actually owned the Airfix brand

Thanks pt. I am enjoying it. It's a god-awful kit but I like it and I don't know why! Got it with the intention of doing the New York/Paris car (can't think what inspired me to have a go at that one! ) but found something a bit different in the form of a race car and now I'm hooked.
The 1/16th Mercer looked very tempting but I'm not fond of the bigger scale however thanks to geebee's lovely build I wouldn't mind a Bearcat when the Thomas is done. Have to see how it goes and if I'm still as keen at the end of the build as I was at the start. All the best Dave
