Latest news is that Hornby are launching the Pocher car kits at the Nurenberg Trade Fair this month.
The Hornby website advertises an exhibition of made up Pocher models at their visitor centre for people to see that I suspect may be all the ex demo stuff inherited from Rivarossi when the took over the company. However, the site says nothing about what kit(s) they will be releasing, I guess thyey are being a bit canny, pending the official announcement at the show.
Some American car modelling sites are speculating as to what it will be. Will it be a brand new kit altogether or a re release. My guesss is that with all the tooling they already have they will release something that has been marketed before to test the water. Personally I hope that it will be the Bugatti Type 50 Coupe, but others naturally will have their own favourites.
Some of these kits have been going for silly money on Ebay, so I expect that there are a number of fast buck vendors out there wondering if the kits they are selling will suddenly depreciate big time!
Some guys on one or two of the American sites are speculating that with Hornby's acquisition of Airfix, that the kits will be simplified in order to bring the prices down. Pochers have always been expensive kits and are generally aimed at very experienced modellers. There must be many Pocher kits that have been bought and abandoned because the buyers have bit off a bit more than they can chew. They were never the easiest of kits to build, and come as a bit of a shock if anybody is used to building the large scale Tamiya kits.
If Hornby are releasing a brand new kit using Airfix's expertise then the quality should be good judging by how good the latest Airfix kits are. Will they stick to the giant 1/8th scale? We shall see!
