Dear All,
When I first asked the question, I did not realise I was going to get such a comprehensive answer.
This thread has turned into a most comprehensive help for all doing a Nimrod model.
Thank you all.
Colin

While we're at it, what about the older white/grey scheme? Gloss white and BS 381C/627 Light Aircraft Grey according to the HS drawings I have here. The very early batch were apparently painted in BS 2660 9-095 Grey, a paint series rarely used on aircraft. A little explanation of the latter - BS2660 9-095 was the colour chosen in the 60s as being the closest non-metallic shade to the Aluminium paint then used on RAF aircraft - this was needed as the change over to polyurethane paints meant that (at that time) they couldn't use metallic finishes. As the colour was adopted, it was added to BS381C at the next revision, as colour number 627 - Light Aircraft grey. BS2660 was equivalent to BS4800 today - a standard for a wider range of shades.

Dear All,
Had an enquiry about the Green used to paint fin of XV240, 120 Squadron, back in 1993......
Any ideas? Green looks a lot darker on photos, and no references obvious any where else.........

Oop's my mistake, sorry. I'd forgotten that there were in fact two 'Green Fin's' the same as there were two of each 'Blue Finned' variant. My apologies.
Pete.
