I don't know if this has been posted on IPMS UK site or not, if so apologies. Sad news that Harry Woodman the farther of scratchbuilding in plasticard passed away last week, there is a tribute on Ray Rimmels site.
For those of you who did not know him Harry almost single handedly did more for scratchbuilding in plastic than any other modeller of out time. He similarly was the first exponent of Photoetched parts, with his passing he will be sorely missed and leave a giant void in our hobby.
Travel safely Harry wherever you are bound.

Sad loss. Used to read his articles in Scale Models years ago.

I remember Harry Woodman through his fantastic modelling work. Although I never met him, I used to see some of his superb work at the Nationals when they used to be at Stoneleigh. His much modified, highly detailed Merit Walrus on a warship catapult comes to mind as but one. Some of us old timers who may have frequented Seagull Models in West Kensington back in the 70's, may recall his superb scratchbuilt model of the pre dreadnought battleship Schleswig Holstein that was on display in the shop. I can remember an in depth article about this model in a copy of Scale Models at the time when either Ray Rimmel or Ron Moulton may have been at the helm. Scale Models Magazine became but a shadow of its former self since the days when MAP published it with regular superb articles featuring work from people like Harry Woodman, Fred Henderson, Tony Woollet and similar expert modellers. Model and Allied Publications when they were in existence published a fantastic little book by Harry Woodman named 'SCALE MODEL AIRCRAFT IN PLASTIC CARD' that was first sold in 1975 and reprinted in 1977. This is one of the very best books that was ever published about scratch building using plastic card, and serves as a fine legacy to Harry Woodman. It is long out of print, so if you ever see one for sale don't hesitate, as it is regarded by many as the best treatise on the subject.

This is a sad thing to read, another great hero of the hobby departs for a better? place.
He gave me the inspiration to get out and make whatever you want to, there is always a way.
The lesson, no, the gift he gave me
