I'm intending to model a Canadair Sabre in SIMPLE RAF markings. Is there a website that has some colour profiles. GOOGLE doesn't provide the answers and just want to use basic decals I have and not go the expensive after market route. Thanks Bertie

What kit are you getting? ........ In all honesty a decal sheet is not what I would call an 'Expensive' after market route. However this all depends on if you're a youngster on pocket money, or a returnee modeller on a pension. I'm certain I must have unused decals in my collection that I'll never use so I'll see what I have, but a good decal collection is a very valuable modellers resource.

Hi Bertie The Sabre was used by several RAF Sqns (3, 4, 20, 26, 66, 67, 72, 92, 93, 112, 130, 234). Profiles can be found here: www.rafweb.org/Index.htmExamples: www.rafweb.org/SqnMark003D.htmwww.rafweb.org/SqnMark004B.htmRegards, Alfie

Highplanes of Australia market an RAF Sabre in 1/48th scale. Otherwise you need to decide on whether you're going to build an F2 or F4 with or without slats or with the 6-3 wing. Basically an F-86E or F-86F with a few tweaks. The RAF Sabre was a Canadair Mk 6.

Hi bertielisse,
If your making a 1/48th scale Sabre you could have some of the spare decals off the sheet i've bought.

If you buy the 1/48th Italeri (ex-ESCI) kit, it looks reasonable, is cheap, builds well and has RAF markings...4 Sqn? About £9 altogether. In 1/72nd, a nice cheap kit is the HobbyBoss F-86F-30. I have lots but they'll all be USAF.

Just bought decals from Hannants for F-86 Sabres at Wildenrath. Which Sabre kit would be best to buy ? New to this board, so don't want to come-off all smart-*rse, but I would suggest before you start cutting plastic, you go and wander around Duncan Curtis' site..... here's the link f-86.tripod.com/.... if you take the time to eMail him, you'll find he's extremely helpful and approachable. I've built so many British Sabres over the time, not all of them perfect by any means, but in 1:48 you really only have one choice for an aircraft with slatted wings (F-86E equivelent) - The Academy kit ! - but it is getting harder to find (Alfie is quite right about the Highplanes kit - this was a re-boxed Academy one with RAF decals and some resin 'tweeks' but was VERY expensive, IIRC). An unslatted machine (F-86F equivelent) is much easier to find, just don't get the extended wing (F-86F-40) version. Hasegawa and Academy's kits are very nice, easy to find and build very well - I cannot be certain, because I've not got one, but I think the recent RoG issue is the Hasegawa kit re-boxed. Then there's one by Monogram, not too bad, and Italeri/Esci - cannot comment on this as I've never built it. I have acres of unused decals for Sabres in the stash that I'd be willing to send - just drop me a PM if you wish. However, as mentioned above, I'd make my first stop, Duncan's web-site and take-it from there. (If you wander into the modeling section, you'll see my 1:48 F-86D.... ). HTH Ian
