I've always loved the Storch, ever since I got my first Airfix Magazine back in 1972 which contained some wonderful sketches of the Afrika Korps including one of a Storch near to an 88 and 1/2 track, IIRC. What did I do with that mag?!
I picked up my kit at Transport Models on Friday and have to say that it looks an absolute gem, one that unusually for me will be built OOTB.
Now, then, will she be the sand and blue a/c used by Rommel - sans airbrush you can forget me doing the boxtop version - or will I be tempted to finish her as Harry Broadhurst's Normandy Fly-around / Churchill-shuttle...?
Well done Tamiya!
Cheers,
Nick

harrier one, have to agree with you 100 percent, just finished mine- another on its way in the post one of the most enjoyable builds I,ve had. the finished one has all the squiggles airbrushed, but disater struck when I applied the matt varnish, some how I,ve managed to get some on the inside of the glazing- no idea how to cure this. btw check out kora decals they have 1o decal sheets listed, croatian, swiss, bulgarian and finish markings anyway- enjoy!

Thats a great job Tamiya have done on the Storch, having looked in the box( not mine but a member of our group) . I to have an Airfix storch in 1/76-1/72 cannot remember which . with no decal's on, was going to use in a diorama of the Africa Korps with Rommel's Half track SdKfz 250, but never got round to finishing it.

I picked up the 1/32 Storch from Hasegawa a little while ago - didn't realise the Storch was coming out in 1/48 otherwise I would have waited, ho hum.
All the reviews I have read say it is an outstanding kit.

Nick You know you really want to do Rommel's machine. This comment has nothing at all to do with my wish to do Broadhurst's. M

Given when Tamiya released it and all the hype, has anyone actually finished one yet? I've not seen one at the two shows I've been to this year (VL and WSM) or on the forums I frequent (this one, Britmodeller & ARC). Any reported sightings anyone?

Hey Mike C, well with the short time this kit has been out, you should know it takes time to get it right for show lol. Iff it showed so soon it would not be up to standard for the person or the judges lol. 'So', a little pittance please lol.

OK, the bad news is that for HB's a/c the rear of the cockpit needs extending back to account for an additional triangular piece of glazing on both sides of the fuselage, which will require some changes to the rear bulkhead. Those are easy enough.
The hard bit is changing the fuselage shape between the two prominent stringers to account for the changed shape of the rear bulkhead without destroying the existing stringer detail...
So, model one will be Rommel's; model two Broadhurst's.
Get in there quickly Mike! (Well, you don't have to be that quick. I've two SHARs and a GR3 for the Falkland Islands Museum, a Seafire XVII, a Harrier T8 and two Spitfires to build first; all in 48th. Ho hum...)
TTFN.

True for you, maybe, and certainly for me, but it never ceases to amaze me how quickly some people turn out the latest wunderkit and have it on display. Maybe we'll see one at Cosford on Sunday? Nick Maybe I'll rethink doing Broadhurst's; I'd not spotted the differences in my references. So I'm now down to four options: Luftwaffe of some sort, Slovak, post-war Czech or captured US with 6/6 stripes: just as soon as I've finished this Fitter, Gripen, F-6D, SR-71 ... See you at Cosford Sunday I hope - I understand that ironically Avon are under the Storch.
