Not new to IPMS - member since 1974ish. Very new to this interweb chat room malarkey. As this is something of an "intro", here's some personal background, while maintaining a degree of anonymity.
I've been sticking plastic kits together for probably 54 years now. Been writing on modelling on-and-off since 1972 - it was my route into full-time aerospace/defence journalism, which has paid the mortgage off now, and I'm still working at it for a big name in the business (but NOT Flight International). I was involved with the Air Training Corps for 14 years to 1986, writing kit reviews for their newspaper. Mid-life, the modelling dropped off until I took my son to IPMS Mid-Sussex, where I've been a member since 1993. Son also got the bug and won a couple of Junior Trophies in 1994/95. He went on to Warhammer 40K and has now discovered Flames of War - modelling with a purpose, he says.
My main interests: RAF aircraft in 1/72nd (plus modern jets), occasional forays into armour in 1/76th and rarer dips into warships - I still have an Airfix Devonshire half converted to HMS Glamorgan in the Falklands war. (Must finish that one day...) Currently on a Spitfire roll, all the fault of Mr Airfix and his 72nd PR.XIX et al. We'll both be at Telford - look for us on the Mid-Sussex stand and ask about the black Chipmunk.
