‘We want you’
I have been a member of the IPMS with my family for some time now and have always encouraged my children to get involved. Cadence is the youngest at 7 years old and loves to build models and once finished loves taking them to various shows to display alongside my own.
What I have noticed over the last few Telford Nationals is that there aren’t very many children’s models on display on the tables. To me it seems that the majority of adult modellers who exhibit and bring their children to the show are part of a SIG and if their son, daughter or grandchild decide to build a model but it wasn’t within the genre of the SIG then it probably wouldn’t get displayed at the show.
So this got myself and my partner Naomi (Woo from Kitswap) thinking, how could we get these children’s models on display at the show for all to see and in doing so possibly encourage other children to join in the hobby and become part of the IPMS?
And this is where we need you!
Myself and Naomi contacted the IPMS about creating 'Rolemodels' and have been given space at Telford 2014 solely for the IPMS members children or grandchildren to display their models. There will be no restriction on genre or standard, so if they choose to build a tank and paint it pink is doesn’t matter no one will judge. The only stipulation we have is that the model/models have to have been built by the child and that they are no older than 15 years old.
Myself and Naomi are happy to donate our time to be on the stand and to make sure everything runs smoothly and we would like to invite and encourage the youngsters to be a part of the stand as well (after all it is their stand). All we would ask is that they would spend 20-30 minutes (or more) of their time accompanied by an adult family member so they can proudly show the visitors what they have built and if asked any questions can answer them too.
These children are the future of the IPMS, so let’s encourage them to be a part of it.
With this idea being something new and not yet done before at Telford we need to gauge how many people will actually be interested in taking part. So for those members who would like their children to take part in displaying their models and also attending on the stand I would ask if you could please get in contact with me. If you could just drop a quick email to me ( paul.findon@yahoo.com ) saying you wish to join in along with your name and your child’s name it would be much appreciated.
I shall look forward to hearing from you and more importantly seeing you all at Telford 2014.
Thank you,
Paul Findon.
