Hi all,
I am new to the IPMS forums but some may know me from BM. I am an extremely slow builder but a prolific starter of 1/48th British post war fixed wing trainers. I am usually based in Blandford, Dorset but am currently away from home until early Feb next year. I will be looking in on a regular basis to see what everyone is up to and also to get ideas for my other interest which is to collect and build all of the Matchbox/Revell 1/76th military vehicle kits, mainly due to the fact that they all come with a little diorama which I loved as a young lad.
I am 36 and led the pretty standard modelers career path of discovering kits via my father at 7 or 8, (I can still remember my first kit, a Hasegawa Mitsubishi T.2 bought from a model shop in Bridlington in the mid 80's, which was built in about three hours with no paint or decals and the canopy ended up covered in glue & fingerprints) the airshows of Finningley and Church Fenton and having rather busy skies over my primary school which brought F-111, A-10, Tornado, Jaguar, JP.4/5, Tucano, and the odd F-15 visiting Cowden ranges. I was then a dedicated model builder however I must admit that I did go for quantity over quality, if I could buy 10 cheap kits as opposed to 1 detailed at the Northern Toy & Train fair held in the Museum of Army Transport in Beverley then that is what I would do. I then joined the forces at 16 in 1995 and modeling took a back seat to booze, birds and Germany.
I finally came back to kit building in 2008/9 after marriage and 2 kids. I found myself at a posting working shifts which leant itself to lots of time sat doing not very much of anything. I bought pretty much all of the kits that I had made as a youngster, all in 1/72nd. I have since swapped 1/72nd for 1/48th, enamels for acrylics, hairy sticks for an airbrush (actually about 4 of them) and Novo/KP/Starfix for the more well known brands. I even have some of the more niche kits from the likes of Heritage and Magna but have yet to make a serious foray into resin, mainly due to a morbid fear of resin dust!
That's me in a nutshell,
Cheers Alex.
