Sadly on August te 6th this year Scotty Wilson who was piloting the Bugatti P100 Aeroplane replica on its third flight crashed on takeoff and died instantly. The aircraft was a total loss in this accident, but the much bigger irreplaceable loss of course was a dedicated engineer pilot in Scotty Wilson. It dealt a massive blow to the approximately 5 year project, Scotty was instrumental in the funding effort, development, engineering and building of the replica aircraft. Ironically. it was to have been the aeroplane's third and last flight before being shipped here to the UK for permanent exhibition in one of our aerospace museums.
The original Bugatti Airframe has been restored for a number of years now and is a static exhibit on display at the Oshkosh Air Museum in USA. Fisher Models released a 1/24th scale fully detailed resin kit of the Bugatti earlier this year. There have also been a couple of smaller resin kits of this aircraft in 1/43rd to match one of the popular car model scales released over the years. A small company named Projekts Models released a 1/72nd limited run injection moulded kit in 1972. For anyone interested in this unique aeroplane, Jap Horst's book about the original Bugatti P100 can be obtained from the Bugatti Trust. Prescott, Glos. UK
