Scheduled for Christmas 2018 the been are filming a three parter of WOTW. It will apparently be true to the book based in Edwardian England. What a refreshing change from all those distorted Amercanised versions we have had to endure in Cinema and on TV over the years!

Brief update, the beeb have not yet given an airing rate yet for War of the Worlds. Speculation g around Christmas perhaps.I
On November 3rd they are airing an adaption of Philip Pulman's Dark Materials fantasy novels. The trailers they have been running look good. I have read all three books so hope the drama series comes up to my expectations. Hopefully wotw similarly when it comes out.

AFTER REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!
Although in period (well sort of), Edwardian instead of Victorian Britain, this three parter really ran out of steam about half way through. It became terribly disjointed with the flash forwards to after the war and not enough action that was sacrificed to make it more of a love story. The giant war machines coming out of the ground after the much smaller spheres levitated defied the laws of physics as well as credulity. Also, how are we to be expected to believe that the Martians teetering around on just three pointed legs would be dexterous enough to make anything without opposing limbs similar to a thumb and forefinger? To me the whole thing was a bit dire and the BBC failed miserably by commissioning this lacklustre version. The only film producer who I think can do WOTW justice is Peter Jackson (the owner of Wingnut Wings) who will be remembered for his superb productions of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogies as well as King Kong and Mortal Engines. Perhaps a bit of lobbying through his company may get us a decent true to book version eventually.
At least the Dark Materials series based on Philip Pullman's Northern Lights novel shown just before is a really good piece of work about parallel worlds, an all overseeing Magisterium and a superb piece of casting with Ruth Wilson playing the part of the beautiful but sinister Femme Fatale Mrs Coulter. This is one series where the beeb has really excelled itself
It is a pity that WOTW was so disappointing as to be fair the BBC has produced a number of really good dramas of late, not to mention their spectacular wildlife programmes.
