I learnt recently that Gerald Wingrove, world famous car modeller passed away during March this year, having lost his wife and professional business partner Phyllis last year.
Gerald, as many of you know, is renowned for his exquisite!y engineered scratch built models and his books 'The Complete Car Modeller volumes 1 and 2' in which he generously shared his techniques for other modellers. His late wife Phyllis played a very active part in their business before they retired to Spain a number of years ago. Phyllis drafted up many of the intricate plan drawings on CAD that they sold as part of the business.
Gerald used to display at the Model Engineering and Modelling Exhibitions at Alexandra Palace each year some time ago now, and I spent many an hour looking at his craftsmanship. I once visited his first workshop in the early days in the 70,s when he showed me some of his preparatory work for the first book. Since then I met him from time to time and conversed with the occasional email after he retired. He was always generous and took time to respond. He and Phyllis will be sadly missed.
