Looks like we are all in for a long haul with this going on! We may be losing a number of shows in the meantime and most of not all local club meetings suspended indefinitely. How long it will last? Who knows? Hopefully we Telford is some way off things may be back to some normality by then, but there is no telling how long things will carry on for. This dreadful situation hopefully will not put IPMS UK back too much and hope that Telford will not have to be postponed and miss a year as a result to save on costs. The show depends on many cottage industry traders staying in business and many members both UK and overseas attending. The whole thing depends on folks disposable income and many will be finding money tight in the near future. No doubt we will come through this, but IPMSUK may need to look at a contingency plan it this drags on.

The IPMS Board is actively monitoring the situation and will make any decisions we have to at the appropriate time. It's too early yet to start worrying at postponing or cancelling Scale ModelWorld but we will be thinking about contingencies over the next few weeks. It's completely unknown territory so we simply don't know how things are going to pan out.

I appreciate there are some unknowns at present, but time is steadily pressing on and Telford is now only 5 months away. If it is still planned to go ahead and social distancing is still in place that is going to raise a few challenges.
Being 75 and classed as vulnerable due to the nature of the show where people crowd around traders stands in particular makes me wonder how it could be made to work safely? The virus will probably still be about until an effective vaccine is available. The show is not like going around a supermarket where numbers are limited or social (actually safety) distancing can be maintained. The nature of the disease differs so much from person to person from life threatening to hardly noticing it and so many could be carriers. Would face masks he mandatory if the event went ahead for example? I have been a member since 1974 and have not missed one nationals/smw since I joined. However,I would want to feel safe at the show so I will be looking at what is proposed if the show is allowed to go on, and decide what to do based on whatever decisions have been made..
Judging by the number of views of this thread suggests that the whole forum is not very active. Maybe a bit more publicity about the fact we have a forum in the magazine would not go amiss!

We're publishing a weekly blog on the IPMS (UK) website. That's the best way to keep up to speed with what our plans for Scale ModelWorld are. As of today (11th June 2020) we are still planning on the basis that Scale ModelWorld will go ahead. As you point out, it's still five months until SMW takes place and judging by the speed with things are changing (some of them slowly and others much quicker) it is almost impossible to predict what the show environment will look like by November. ipmsuk.org/category/viewpoint/Regards, John
