Details of the home made polisher / sander was supplied by Ian Sadler, Armour TAS / Armour SIG Leader. In the 'Pound' shops in the you can buy mini electric tooth brushes with replacement heads as per the illustration. To turn this toothbrush into a cheap electric Sander / Polisher, all you need to do is cut off the bristles and super glue a Velcro pad, the same diameter as the head, the thickness is not important. Then, super-glue the sanding or polishing disc to the opposite Velcro pad. Place the modified sanding / polishing disc onto the electric head and gently sand or polish the area that requires attention. You can make up several different grades of disc at one time and have them ready for quick changes or replacement.

I didn't really think this would work very well but as my local pound shop had the brushes in stock I thought I would give it a try - after all, all I could lose was £1 and a little time.
To my surprise it worked really well and polished off sprue attachment points quickly and neatly - so thanks for the tip Nick.

Ah yes, my lack of faith matches my lack of talent!
Also I need to learn to read properly as you did point out in the original posting that the tip came from Mr Sadler. But be fair you have been known to come up with a fair few wacky ideas yourself!
