I made sure the contents of the bottle were agitated, turned up the compressor to 20 psi, the airbrush had worked fine with a previous acrylic and had been cleaned. Alclad II just won't spray properly, and I've tried my trusty 200 and a 200G, what am I doing wrong?

I had trouble with one of the airbrushes I got free with my compressor recently and it just would not come out right, but using the same pressure around 30psi with my new Iwata it comes out perfect everytime. I was spraying Alclad steel last night with no problems and this Iwata airbrush sprays the Alclad chrome brilliant, the best I have ever managed to get it.

Nick you have probably still got a tiny bit of acryl inside the the tip, the alclad will just run out of the front of the brush without any air ,it is so thin . Ted

I bought myself a set of the Vallejo Model Air metallic acrylics a little while ago and used them on a B 17 I am playing around with and they spray wonderfully - not sure how they compare to Alclad - heard lots of good things about them. Have also sprayed a thinned humbrol metallic, you know the stuff you buff up to shine - went on lovely and didn't need much of a buff either.
What so special about the Alclad?

Here's a picture which I hope will aid in the query about Alclad over others. This is my current project Suzuki Katana. All the metallics are different shades of Alclad including the Chrome. Of note is the sprayed patch on the side frame accesory panel which is actually the only piece of non Alcald in view apart from the non metallics. That is Metalcote polished steel sprayed and buffed. Nuf said? H

Cheers Paul, I have to admit the Vallejo range is excellent, not tried the metallic range though.

Carbs are in a 50/50 mix of Aluminium (shade 1) and Steel. Block is Duralium (3?) all over with a light wash of Burnt Umber run through the fins to give them a bit of contrast and depth.
