Hi gang,
There is a proposition to change the designation of IPMS York to IPMS North Riding as we are more spread out than the City of York.
It will remain based on the existing York and District club but will act separately as far as IPMS is concerned.
If there is anyone else out there interested, drop me an email (see below).
Wolfie.

Hi Wolfie,
As far as I'm aware, we don't have an IPMS York.
If I recall my AGMs correctly, York ceased to be a Branch several years back, as it didn't have 5 current IPMS (UK) members.
I certainly haven't had an Annual Return from them this year!
If this situation has changed, please can you ask your Branch Sec to contact me urgently, in order to get you formally re-instated.
Thanks,
Rob M.

Hi Wolfie,
Yep, I'm the individual in charge of overseeing Branches and SIGs for now.
Drop me a line at the usual address and we can start to sort this out.
Cheers,
Rob M. ps. Glad to have York back again (hopefully)!

If I recall my AGMs correctly, York ceased to be a Branch several years back, as it didn't have 5 current IPMS (UK) members. Which is what prompted the new branch we were hoping to form (Mid Yorks). Still if the York branch reforms that may resolve that issue. Ian

As the shmuck who took over as IPMS York secretary when Joel quit (for lack of support): - and who tried (in vain) to get enough IPMS members to report in, so that we could remain officially quorate: - and who thought we were finally on again, only to have poor old Pete Rivers killed on us: - and has been IPMS rep for YDPMS ever since reluctantly declaring IPMS York defunct (as Head Office allows no cadre status):
I wish every success to anyone wishing to reform IPMS York or reasonable substitute.
However: North Riding's big. It's a long way from anywhere to anywhere else. You need a meeting place that's central and easy to get to and easy to find first time. May I suggest Guppy's, in York?
Any new Secretary ought to be able to get to most, if not all, meetings. Please do (it's a job I took on because nobody else would) and let's run an election - if we can gather the full 5 all at once.
But there's YDPMS members who aren't IPMS members, and won't be, because they've seen precisely what service levels IPMS actually delivers to its members, especially new ones. And they can't be evicted, because YDPMS was there first and IPMS York was a sub-group, and (if it happens) will be again. And they won't be evicted, because friendship matters more than politics. What's more, they're a viable group, which the IPMS members aren't on their own except in a visiting-each-other or meeting-in-a-pub sort of way.
The easiest thing to do, and possibly the most useful from the modellers' point of view, would be for IPMS to award Associate or Affiliate status to independent modelling clubs (like YDPMS) who have at least (say) 3 IPMS members, and encourage country members to join them - so that full branches have a chance of forming. IPMS York had no real chance of recovery once taken off the books - but as a cadre, with no Branch priveleges except a place on the list, who knows?
We had the closed-shop debate in the '70s. Time to join the wider world, perhaps?

Bri Derbyshire (miles behind the times as usual!) Hi Brian, You'd be surprised how close York is to fulfilling the required 5 IPMS members. With Mr Hartups family membership, once a couple of your recently lapsed renew (I'm talking a month or two lapsed, so I'm assuming they're renewing before SMW) you will in fact have 6 current IPMS Members. If you want us to advertise the fact you are looking for new members (country and new generally, you could drop a line to John Tapsel for the in house Mag, or to any of the national modelling press. As for IPMS service levels, if you have any specific complaints, my mailbox is always open and I'll happily take things to EC meetings as required. As UKLO I'm trying to get proactive and actually encourage Branches and SIGs to develop and grow. Since I was elected in April I have overseen the creation of 5 new SIGs, one new Branch and the resurrection of the 144th Scale SIG. By working together we can change this society for the better. Hope you're right, Rob! Meanwhile, you're on.
Eh up, lads (and lasses) - we may get a change of name and/or secretary, but it looks like IPMS York could well return from the dead. If you're too far away from the Leeds Confederacy or the Free Port of Bridlington, or even if you just want a change of scene, why not come and help swell the IPMS ghetto within that worthy and august * bunch, the York and District Plastic Modellers' Society? Or even help to form a semi-detached splinter group thereof. Volunteers - and existing members too, please, some of you are too stealth by half - please e-mail BOTH me and Wolfie - we'll sort out who's doing what later. If you're a newbie I'll send venue details etc. I'm on "bd1944@yahoo.com" and Wolfie's address is in his small print. Hoping to hear from enough of you, Bri.
* (Not usually August, owing to venue-master's holidays.)

TWO WEEKS LATER...............
Not a solitary sausage, except for a PM from Ian Vader to say our meetings are the day after his at Lincoln, so it's a bit much.
Come on, you (existing) lot - all I want is your name and MemNumber. Surely it's not too much to ask - like it has been for the last couple of years - is it?
(Rob - see what I mean?)

Chaps..... Just a thought. The proportion of IPMS (UK) members who actually log onto these forums is rather small (though growing, I'm sure) and therefore this may not be the most likely place to make contact. Naturally, potential members (non-IPMS) are likely to be scarcer still!
Might I suggest that a more direct approach may well be necessary/ In other words, don't expect them to come to you.... go out and get 'em. Show them what IPMS has to offer and round 'em up!

Aye, GR1, we know. It just gets a bit iffy when even your KNOWN likelies don't write! (and John Tapsell's address doesn't work...)
Anyway, as of SMW 2007, it's official. Wolfie is down for Secretary, and I'm his deputy (as I can get to more meetings.) We have agreed on a Branch title of
YORK AND NORTH RIDING
(which covers an acre or two) and we invite interested IPMS members of any and all specialisms to post in or e-mail to either or both of us ..... details posted above, October 14 & 28. We're listening .....
