That big muck out produced some more surprises including an old box of photographs. In said box were some pics of my trucks going back to my early career. I'll share them with you. Only Ted and maybe Nick will recognise one or two of these, and theres one never before seen. Or not for a lot of years anyway ;D
Some of them are distorted a bit cos I shrank them for the thread!
This was one of my first jobs, and I can't remember which of these two Mercs was mine. They are both 1625s or 1626s.
Shortly after that I was going continental. I was one of the youngest drivers ever to be a continental truck driver at that time, I was only 22. The year is 1986. Dover docks.
Parked up in France for the weekend, such hardship. And noone gave a toss that I was there right on the marina front. They just moved over and passed the wine bottle.
I moved on and was continental for some years. This is a Leyland DAF 95 loading groupage in Colnbrook, about 10 yards from the end of the runway at Heathrow. I took this pic to show someone how close the buggers got. I used to time them, we got one every 1 and a half minutes. One day Concorde took off over us while I was there what a row and all the car alarms went off ;D ;D
Same company, different truck. A Volvo F10.
And then there was this one. A Ford Transcontinental which had been somewhat added to. This was the biggest truck on the continental run until the Renault Magnum. I used to win bets that "my cab was bigger than yours". I would dearly love to know what happened to this truck. SUR57W if anyone can check!
Then I came back to the UK cos the redhead wanted me to (grrrr), a bit of agency work to begin with. Milk Tankers!
Then all sorts of tramping work dodging the newfangled 'distribution' setup.
ERF C Series with a long load. This site is now the big Post Office site in Stourton, Leeds for those that know it.
Same co, different truck. Mines on the right, the other is an E series.
Then there was Jim Beresford, what a character. He ran vintage trucks too, he still does, I ran into him at the Pickering show earlier this year. Volvo FL10
Ward Bros of Malton. Scania 143 and the A9
Then there was the farmer you have all seen before. Volvo F10 and FH12.
And one more just for fun...
Wolfie.
