Ive been looking at the diffent spec lifts that are and have been in our yard, and i think i have cracked it..... As you can see in the clip below the spec lift comes out from under the truck, and pivots allowing it to move up and down for towing. But when you tilt the flat bed on the rear it also tips the spec lift moving it out of the way when loading and then returns when the bed tips back.....

It is looking good with the working details. Where will the specs sit when the ramp is lowered?

it neatly sits under-neath the bed, the spec will be in the retracted possition when the bed is tilted. When the wheels and tyres are on the spec tilts down and just touches the ground, and then returns to the mid possition when the bed tilts back to lorry. i will post some pickies up tommorow

I think we're going to have to have a wrecker build before long?

Funnily enough a wrecker has been on my list for some time, for a mate of mine.
As it happens you might even have seen it on the TV, he was the one that recovered Richard Hammonds jet car at Elvington down in York after he totalled it.
Trouble is I haven't been able to find a donor kit, he has two, an Iveco cargo and a Merc Atego. But now that fire engine with its crew cab is looking ever so handy... Problem there is, its the latest cab and Johns is the earlier one.
Wolfie.

Found an article in TMW 101 on a Iveco 7.5 tonner slidebed recovery truck by Andrew McAslan in 1/32nd scale.

Ok update.... Ive added things like battery box, air tanks, fuel tank, spare wheel, and one of the stowage boxes to the chassis. once they were on i could look at the side bars to stop vehicles going under the truck. The rear spec is done, built that from some parts plans i found. It took ages to make a frame for carrying the broken down vehicle that i was happy with. It had to turn 180 degrees on its self and so that it didnt twist on its self... just need to tidy it up a bit still. ;D enjoy ;D

All the chassis and tilting bed is all primed now, just need a trip to Halfords for some paint..... The cab is built, but there are some extra holes in the rear of the cab which would otherwise be hidden when built as a stobarts truck. So these have been filled with some plastistrut and once the glue has hardened fully can be sanded down. The pegs have been fitted in the roof for the polished air horns and the holes have been drilled for the polished light bar in the front panel.... enjoy ;D

Hi paul that really looks the part and is so neat and tidy. Have you made a choice as to colour schemes yet? That is going to be very sharp looking what with the working features. Will the recovered vehicle be a simple breakdown, accident or joy rider's burn out?
Keep your knives sharp and your glue lid shut tight

I have a Mercedes 560 Sec, the body is slightly twisted so I recon either a wreck or a burnt out car.....
both will be on non uk reg as they are LHD.
I thinking Blue Chassis and a Yellow body and cab..... not sure though yet.

Ive gone for a metallic champagne/silver colour for the cab and bed, with a metallic gunmetal grey for the chassis. The crane will probably be metallic grey like the chassis.
Started to build and modify the crane last night so it sits on the chassis better, i will also modify the out rigger legs making the rams longer.
