Ok this year I am hopefully building amongst other things 2 truck kits. What I'd like to know is am I better off partially or fully building the chassis and then spraying it or spraying each part individually. It's a long time since I've built a truck kit the last one was a monogram snap-tite model in the early 80's. All advice appreciated Pat

Usually I will build up the chassis in full and attach the axles and springs, depending on wether the chassis is all one colour I will affix the air tanks too.
Bits like the fuel tanks and battery/stowage boxes I will spray seperatley. I will also spray the cab in parts if wanting different colours, saves masking.
When im painting the chassis I will leave the engine out, but what I will do is only glue one mounting point of the front axle. This will enable me to open the chassis out enough to remove and refit the engine.

Pat,
When a real truck is built, the chassis is assembled, suspension and running gear is added, wiring, lubrication lines and whatever else they can attatch, modelling is similar. I build a full chassis including suspension and air tanks, brake assemblies and whatever else I can attach to the chassis which is the same colour, and I then spray the full assembly. I tend to spray the cab as near complete as I can get.

I agree with both of the above, generally build as much of the chassis as possible before spraying, only spraying stuff separately where it is a different colour.
Same goes for the cab. Its far easier to spray in one piece but before the glazing is added.
Wolfie.
