In a bit of a change of direction from the three early Tamiya GP bikes I've been working on I've decided to build something a bit more challenging. So I spent a pleasant hour or two browsing the stash and came up with the Profile 24 kit of the Ford P68. This was the car developed to replace the GT40 after the FIA moved the goal posts in the late '60s. As per many of the non Ferrari Sportscars and F1 cars of the period '65 to '80 it has Cosworth DFV power! The kit is a straight forward curbside resin bodied lump. I'll post some pictures of the content of the box tonight after work but for now here's a B&W photo of the real car I've found on line. Regards Ian

That should be looking pretty cool when you've done H. One more for BAMS?
The Profil24 kits are pretty good, I have the '95 Le Mans winning F1 McLaren in the stash. Just need Hiroboy/Zero to release the paint pack - unless I ask for a custom mix job....
IIRC the P68 in the pic was (metallic?) red with gold stripe?

Yeah. I'm waiting for Rob M to let me know whether we're in as an affiliate group before I start planning the group display for 2008 which will be the relaunch sort of. I've sent a table request in for ModelSport and will be displaying there this year! The P68 is a lovely thing. I'm just a bit 'tested' by the windscreen which is flush fitted to the body and a fairly flexible vacuform. I got it cut to fit the body last night just got to work out a fit and fill sequence to get it in place and the seals showing the right colours. The car I'm building does not have the wing being the '68 not '69 car and is in Solid Red with White nose and rear along with the Gold stripe. See this picture... If you send Steve an E-Mail you may find he has the data for those colours already. I know he's done some McCheater colours already. Will have a proper chat at Telford. I can only make the Saturday this year due to personal commitments which is a bit of a bugger but there you go! H

Spent some time on the body yesterday and tonight. A coat of good quality Grey primer and a little sanding showed up a few faults and I'm hoping to resolve these later. In the meantime here are a few pictures of the Body as it stands right now. I think they've not done a bad job of capturing the shape of the body. The big problem is that windscreen! H

Just spent a productive hour or two slowly trimming and fitting, trimming and fitting the vacuformed windscreen. Just as well you got two int he kit. The first fits quite well but I messed up the top section a bit. The second I think i got spot on. Now I have to work out how to fit it to the kit so that it looks flush fitted and seamless. Could take a bit of doing!

Thankfully the body has such a strip moulded on. I've got an idea how to do this and I'm going to go with it tomorrow as I'm a bit knackered after work tonight.
I intend to did the canopy in Klear first. Then when dry mask off the inner face save for the outer edge (1-2 mm) which I'll spray black. The having painted the ledge Black as well I'll use epoxy glue to run a thin bead around the edge of the body and place the canopy on top. If I leave the masking in place it should protect the canopy against any oozing. The glue that squeezes out should be uselful to fair in the external screen.

try getting hold of some of the jewellers glue that Littlecars has. It was recommended by Rod Knott to me and it works really well. Ideal for screens.

Hi Looking good so far. From the photos of the real car, looks like the axles want shortening to make the wheels/tyres sit more under the wheel arches and slightly lowering. The right side rear looks the worst !!!!
