To get back into the swing of things I've set about an SRC 1/43rd F1 car. Specifically the Ferrari 156/65 F1 1961 as driven by Trignant in the French GP 1961. I've nearly finished the engine and rear suspension so here's a picture H

Sometimes i wonder why we do this hobby.
I spent an hour last night preparing and spraying the body panels. I left the model to dry overnight in a drying box. When i return to it this morning before work there was a d**n great fly stuck to the nose! Right in the middle of the upper nose profile. Very nice clean Paint Angels where it swam about a bit!
Not what I wanted to see!

Just about finished the Ferrari I showed as a WIP a couple of weeks ago. Only thing stopping this model being finished, apart from the non drying Humbrol Leather on the steering wheel, are the two little clear covers on the carb intakes. The vacuformed ones provided in the kit (see pictures) are too big! I'm working on a master to crash mould two more at present. The kit decals were the big let down in the box though. They proved brittle over sized and generally nasty brown stuff! (Not what i typed!) With a bit more time and the inclination I should have replaced them but frankly I could not be bothered! You've gotta love these little SRC 1/43rd kits. They have no pretensions at being superdetailed, instead you get a simple but workman like kit of an unusual subject which you can build in days or use as the basis for something more polished. I love building them as a 'between projects' model. In this case between bouts of swearing at 1/24th Ford Mustangs of various sorts. Next up is a 156 'sperimentale'. Basically a lightened, shortened version of this car with the later engine and a short nose single intake. H

Gotta admit it is not the best thing I've done. Had so many problems with the Decals that it had knock on effeects on the paint work on the body joins etc. I'll try replace them next time. I do intend to do a second model from this kit, the Yellow car still intrigues me. I have Doug Nye's book on the 156 Dino on order from the wife for Christmas so maybe that will help me.
