I have just received a copy of the Myster IVa at a very reasonable price (£2.99) and not bad postage considering where its coming from. My query concerns the markings. I can't call it a decal sheet because it certainly isn't waterslide, but are the markings rub down? The front of the sheet is very shiny and the back is matt. I haven't tried rubbing one down but I wondered whather anyone had any experience of these sheets?

Sounds like lollipop job (suck it and see.) If there's no covering sheet (and there should be for rub-downs,) and the sheet's opaque, and it isn't faintly tacky, it might not be rub-down, but it sounds vaguely like the old Maintrack "Clear-fix" decals, in which you cut out the marking, laid it on the kit, backing paper uppermost, then dampened the paper, which slid off, leaving the marking behind. Try treating one as a rub-down, first, on a piece of greaseproof paper, so it loosens the marking, without coming off completely. If that doesn't work, and neither does the Clear-fix treatment, I'm lost, and I think you'll need the power of prayer. Edgar

Thanks Edgar. I think Suck it and see is in order! Its an exact copy of the Matchbox sheet so it includes the kit name so I can have a go with rubbing that down. You never know, it might be a superb sheet! The front facie very glossy, the rear is matt and there was a bit of opaque paper floating around the box as a backing (detached) so it could be rub down - care required on a natural metal finish!

If they are rub-down, rub them on top of the backing sheet, first. This serves to loosen them, a little, before actually rubbing them onto the model proper. Sorry, if you know this, already, but others, reading this, might not. I never had any success with rub-downs, so "cheated," by rubbing them onto clear decal sheet, then treating them as a normal decal. Edgar

Edgar
You were right! They are rub down - verified by rubing down the kit name. It came off the sheet in one piece and stuck to the piece of paper I had applied it to very well! Only snag is the red and blue roundel colours, which look distinctly pale to me!
