Well as you know I said I was going to have a go at scrtch building HMS Intrepid. Having got hold of some detailed drawings and been down to see her first hand I started drawing out my plans. What i plan to do is build her a level at a time, The base of the build will be from the water line (midway between #4 & #5 deck) she will be built as if she is in water not on a stand. The hull will be made from 8mm and 5mm sheets of foam/plastic board i have, then i can sand away creating the correct contour of the bow and stern. This will also mak it easier to create the rear of the ship which has a hulll that can be flooded. As you can see i have managed to draw out my plans for the sections that need to be cut out and then glud to each other.

Hi Fatty. What scale are you looking at? If you wanted a few additional clues you could try and find an old Airfix Fearless? This may also hep www.hmsfearless.org.uk/home.htmcheers Rich

Hi Fatty -do you just want to check that scale? 158m/16 = 9.875m? 158m = 520 foot, 1/16 of that is 32.5 foot! I reckon on 1/160? It's 1/192 scale (1/4" to 1 foot = 1/48 scale because there's 48 quarter inches in a foot and it's 4 times that). Alfie

Yeah its 1/192 scale.
Your mixing your feet and inches up Paul.
If 1/16" = 1 inch it'd be 1/16 scale, but its 1/16" = 1 foot.
So its 16 x 12 (12 inches in a foot) = 192.

Well after all the templates were drawn they needed cutting out (mentle note to ones self.... comfey scissors next time) then it was a case of laying out the templates on the sheeting and then draw around them. for the moment i am concentrating on the hull. Once drawni then had the fun job of cutting them out, what suprissed me was that cutting 8mm plasticard with a scallel i did not endure any cuts at all.... once cut i could then glue them together to make the hull, i have left the top deck unglued just pinned so once i have sanded and filled the hull to its desired shape i can then add the detail to inside the loading bay.
