Bleedin' nora! I've bought REAL cars for less than that. Although I was tempted by a Nitto Lancia Stratos that Mr Models had been bringing to the Nationals for 3 years now. £100 was just too steep for me, and when he flogged it for £80 I was quite relieved - Had Mrs Autobahnstormer discovered that I'd spent that much money on a kit, I would have been removing bits of it from various orifices for (probably) years to come. And it'll get dusty! Phil

A lot of that price is the boxing and bits. Later versions did not come with the motor or the internal boxing so early ones attract a lot of interest with collectors. I got way over this for mine about five years ago when the original collection got sold.

The less collectors and the more builders in this game the better.
Someone on the TMW forum asked me whether I was going to sell the quote 'ultra rare' Seddon transkit I won and buy a couple of kits.
I said I had considered it...
For about 2 nanoseconds and then ordered a couple of bits from KFS to make it complete and it is next in line on the workbench.
Hehehehehe

Er, 'scue me Mr Wolfie, sir...
I only suggested it so you would could buy the KFS transkit that sounded to be a lot better, NOT so you could furnish some collector with more lagging for their attic.
I too take great pleasure in winding up collectors. Its even easier with diecast rebuilds!

Plastic Kit Collectors............Peculiar breed! I can understand collectors buying something already made to a high standard like a high quality die cast or something. But who really wants to buy old kits and pay shed loads of money for something in a box that is ragged around the edges that will probably be reissued some time anyway. Ahh! But it's because it's in the original type of packaging you see!!!! (Yea right!). I'd love to build an Airfix Vauxhall Box Viva because it's a model of what I passed my test in. Saw one on a traders stand some time ago for the princely sum of £35.00. It stayed there!! Yea I know! Should have bought one when they were about 3 bob in Woollies years ago. Remember them?

Who, Woolies? The Viva was re-released just recently in a tripple set with the Escort and Herald if you were interested? Rich

Collectors have made this hobby a little too expensive in certain instances. A few years ago, a big dealer at the Nationals (Who shall remain nameless, but did not impress me with his attitude) was offering a Revell Rotodyne for £175!!
When Revell re-issue this kit (Sometime this year I'm reliably informed) I can see the smile being wiped off his face.
I've seen this happen particularly with the Matchbox/Revell Victor and the Airfix SRN4 Hovercraft. I finally bought the hovercraft once the prices had fallen. God knows why they were expensive, it's a hideous kit to build!
