Bit late, but technically I believe "transfers" are wetted and applied face down to the model (or, when I was a kid, arm - they were usually skulls, crossbones and such.) "Waterslides" are what we variously term "transfers" or "decals." The flying- and solid- modelling fraternities in GB called them "transfers" and the term passed on to Frog and Airfix; the USA preferred the ex-French "decal" which I suppose is technically more accurate. Drat 'em all! TRANSFERS FOREVER!!! Bri

oh dear, I'm new to the forum and I've already stumbled upon a subject close to my heart! I'm with you all(?) in that we are allowing this creeping in of Americanisms and it is a tide that is bigger than our flood defences! While I guess we have to begrudgingly accept that the lazy yankie way will conquer the world I will always protest, given the opportunity. I have fallen foul at times thought because, as you would discover over time , those yankies often use ld english words, such as "gotten". As much as I'd love to moan and groan they are sometimes simply using our original form. HOWEVER, there will never be a place for "24/7", "w/", etc which are all lazy, lazy, lazy! There is equally no place for the oft exclaimed "awesome". Nothing is awesome unless it truly is. It is a word reserved for the unusally fantastic or large and not a way of commenting on someones latest purchase at Primark! M the grump
