In response to some enquiries here is a brief overview of how to include pictures in your posts.
First, your picture needs to be available on the Internet, stored on either your own webspace or on one of the dedicated image hosting services that abound these days. For example Photobucket: photobucket.com/ or Picture Trail: www.picturetrail.com/
There are a few things to be aware of though;
Some hosting providers actively prevent files being shared on different domains, in other words you can only view your pictures from within the providers own server(s).
Many 'free' hosting services allocate very limited bandwidth to users domains, if that is the case then multiple hits to an image stored on your own space may result in your webspace becoming unavailable for a period of time.
The other thing to be careful about is the issue of copyright, there is a clause in the ProBoards service contract that states that they may use any image displayed via their forum services for their own marketing, advertising and promotional purposes, if image copyright is a concern to you then check before posting, you have been warned.
Actually inserting an image is quite simple.
I have a picture on a webserver, its address is;
www.jackalsquadron.org/content/reviews/airfixlcvp_lp/images/DSCN2492.jpg
Note that is a complete web address, to the server, jackalsquadron.org, the directory path to the file and the complete file name including its '.jpg' extension.
In order to insert an image into your post first click on the 'Insert Image' button on the bar above the message window, it is the 4th button from the left on the second row.
This will create an opening and closing 'img' tag with the word URL in between them.
Simply delete the word URL and paste or type in the address of your image file. The result looks like this.
Use the 'Preview' button to see if your image is inserted correctly, if it is then submit your post, if not then check that you have the complete address correctly inserted between the opening and closing 'img' tags.
If you still can't get the hang of it consult the online help, failing that drop a PM to the Forum Administrator.
Rules: Yes, you knew there would be rules.
1. Don't post lewd or vulgar images, if you do your user account will be suspended and if you are an IPMS member your actions will be reported to the committee.
2. Don't post copyrighted images without the explicit permission of the copyright holders.
3. If the number of images being displayed impacts reliability or performance the Adminstrator reserves the right to remove images to ensure the forum remains available.
4. Please keep the size of your image(s) down to 640 pixels wide, certainly no more than 800 pixels wide. Images larger than this will force themselves off the page and will result in viewers having to scroll L - R, any further postings following the image on that page will attempt to fill the space created.
