Hello me hearties,
I have started building the Gunze Triumph TR3. Going quite nicely but I think I may hit a problem soon. The interior parts are made out of a rubber like material, my question is, if you have built one of these Gunze kits, what glue did you use to join the rubber parts to the styrene parts? Also, whilst on the subject, I am thinking that the only paint I should be using on these rubber parts is acrylic, right? I heard that enamel paint does not dry if put on this type of material. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards, Steve.

Hi Steve,
I havnt done one of the kits but try paint on some of the carrier sprue for the rubber parts if your unsure about them and how they dry.

Hi Steve I've built the TR2 and TR3 (Hi-tech) and the TR3A is under way, as well as the Frogeye Sprite. I've had no problems with enamel or acrylic (Halfords rattlecan) on these parts. Gloss or matt or satin finish enamels. I tend to leave them until just about last thing though and don't handle any more than is necessary. Works for me (Photos to follow - just realised I don't have any ) Rich

Thanks for the tips guys. I have done some experiments with the sprue and Tamiya acrylic black (X-18) This dried almost imediately and has proved to be quite tough. I have also stuck some pieces together with super glue (brittle when dry) and Revell tube glue (very stringy). The tube glue has been more successful. Looking forward to the pics Rich. Were you at Peterborough model show a few weeks ago? I remember hanging my nose over some TR models but never got around to asking about them. I also have the 2 and the 3A, none of them are Hi-Tech though, I'll post pics of my progress soon.
Cheers, Steve.

Hi Steve I was at Peterborough and there were two of us with TR's on show. My TR2 was on the Rutland stand whilst there were a couple of very good/much better ones on the Ipswich stand (IIRC). Still here you go with mine. By the way I got the TR2 and 3 back to front in that the TR2 is the Hi-tech version, complete with fully etched frame. IMHO unnecessarily over-engineered, but a challenge all the same. I bought it part built so someone else had done the folding but when I stripped body back it revealed a significant break in the bodywork running from the centre of the bonnet down the left/near side. TR2 TR3 Frogeye - still needs wipers and trim finishing and just to whet your appetite, I found this resin TR4 on evil bay....complete with its own etched set. Last one with the TR2 just to prove it's 1:24 and not 1:32 ! I believe it originates in Finland? The etched includes emblems for TR4, 4a and 5. Rich

Nice models Rich, thanks for the pics. You did a good job on the TR2 considering the state of it. I have often thought that the Gunze kits are a bit over engineered, the Lotus Hi-Tec has a PE chassis and it makes me think why make that component so hard to produce. It looks like, properly detailed, it could be a model in itself. Depends on if you want to look at a chassis? I have the Sprite and an Airfix boxing of the E type Hi-Tec to look forward to, Sprite is started and is old english white and will have maroon interior now that I know which paint to use.. I like the TR4 shell, think I saw those on ebay but the price was a bit beyond my means, well, certainly my model budget anyway. I have two 1:1 Triumphs that soak up most of my pocket money!Do you use a Gunze TR kit as the donor for that TR4? My TR3 is nearly done now, will post pics shortly.
Cheers, Steve.

Hi Steve The TR4 is an Air-Trax transkit and yes the suggestion is to use a Gunze TR3 as a donor, but the Minicraft one should still work. The etchings are by Eduard too. I also have the Airfix (ex Gunze) Hi-Tech E in the stash to build. Working my way through that at the mo Lucky you (?) with a pair of real things to work on. It must feel great to get them out on the road?

Funny that I've got the Airfix E-Type in the loft although mine is sans box and a rocker cover.

Well, here is my little TR 3. The chrome is all Alclad II and the wheels are from the Aoshima MGB roadster. These ended up as spares as I got a set of 'Rostyle' rims from SEF, they look better on the rubber bumper version I did. Not very impressed with the kit wheels and tyres, the Aoshima ones are not great but at least the tyres have lettering and decent tread. I think I will have to use the Gunze wheels on my TR3A I have run out of optional spares! I made the grill surround out of polished florist wire, the rest was pretty much OOB. Only dissapointment was having to paint the window surround in by hand. Gunze supply a decal in silver for this and mine shattered when it hit the water. Rich, you are quite right. The weather has been just right for my cars. I haven't had the hood up on the Spit since last Friday and I use it daily. On the other hand, long journeys in the GT6 can get uncomfortable due to NOT being able to take the roof off! A great car but after an hour, sitting alongside a six cylinder engine tends to get a bit 'sauna' like. It is a design masterpiece, even with the air vents and windows fully open, there is no air movement inside the cabin lol. Wouldn't change it for the world though. I am going to crack on with the Sprite next. Have you sat the sprite next to the TR? I think the scale may be a bit off? Always thought the Sprite to be a bit smaller in reality. I'll have to check dimensions, do a bit of googling perhaps. Cheers, Steve.

Oh, I knew they would do this after I paid nearly £40 for one last year! I will probably buy another though, I quite fancy doing a custom version. Last year at the Triumph International, there was a MkIII GT6 with a home made body kit, sounds dodgy but the car looked fantastic. I wonder if the Lindberg kit could be done like that. Not sure if you have seen the kit parts, it is a bit clunky as you might expect for the vintage. Body is multi part but with a bit of care it should be possible to come up with a decent model. I hope to find out soon, keep picking it up and having a fiddle with it but not been able to commit to a build yet. Steve.

Hey Steve.............
As you know - but perhaps others don't? - that interior material is not stable or inert. I struggled to paint mine too, decided to strip the Humbrol enamel off by dropping it in a jar of standard white spirit thinners.......... {phone rings] Forget soaking components until the middle of the night {thinks I'll do it in the morning] Morning comes no interior components - just a goopy rubbery mess in bottom of jar!!! Grrr - gnash!
Anyone have the interior of a Triumph TR2 going spare??

Hello Andi bloke, welcome to the forum. If you do not have any luck finding an interior for the TR2, what about building a club racer version? I have a few spare seats and the rest of the interior could be built using plastic card. If you need the kit parts for patterns, I can lend you mine (I want them back though) lol. I have the racer version of the 3A, you are welcome to the aero screens and other race related parts from that. Please post some of your work on here, I think that most of the people on this forum will be familiar with it as I know most will be active on the UK show scene. Still, it is always nice to refresh the memory and I, for one, find your builds inspiring. Still thinking about the colours for my TR2 and TR3A. Thinking about BRG with tan interior for the 2 and maybe Red with black int for the 3A, open to suggestions.
Steve.
