Hi Guys Thought I'd share my latest build with you all to have a right good laugh at B) , I'm having a go at the Tamiya 1/24 Morris Mini racing Cooper version , for the body work I used Tamiya X5 Green sprayed over a Tamiya 53 med grey to give the green a darker look , after spraying the car has had a large amount of Johnson's klear I still have to finish off the inside of the shell with some light grey and deck tan , plus use some BMF or Flat black round the window frames ( Can't make my mind up just yet ) , Also I have just finished decalling the dashboard and painted a couple of the switches As for the engine I decided to use Vallejo reflective green lightened with a few drops of white and the rocker cover I painted red just to break up all the green I will be wiring up the engine for this I will be using the MAD pre-wired Distributors made by Kris Morgan in the USA and exclusively sold in the UK by Steve at SnC Hobbies , these are fantastic for wiring up engines and come in various colours and come in 4,6 or 8 cylinder variations and with plug boots , of course for this build I'll be using the 4 cylinder version with a tan cap and grey wires

Nice job Sean, certainly no laughing matter! The paint finish looks lovely. I was going to suggest painting the arch extensions with gloss black, but they do look nice in body colour. I would recommend using BMF on the window frames as I think the black framing would make the car look bland. Are you painting the roof a different colour. There is a nice Mini local to me body colour is a dark (very dark) green and the roof is white silver, may not sound good but it does look effective. Looking forward to following this build. Regards, Steve.

Hi Steve Yep going for a white roof with green piping round the edges , as for the interior I'm leaving out the passenger seat plus I might put in a totally different racing seat as I don't like the look of the kit one it just looks horrid as for the window frames I've been looking around and they were black rubber with chrome inserts , the plan was as its a racing car i was going to leave out the chrome on the front and rear window (weight saving even though they weigh nothing) and put chrome on just the side rear windows , but see what happens as I progress on the build as I'll probably change my mind yet again cheers Sean

That's the thing with Mini's, they are so open to modification and it is almost impossible to get it 'wrong'. This is going to look great when it's done, you are certainly off to a good start with the classic colour combo. The last Mini I built was a replica of a friends real car. I had taken some pics of his car at a Mini show, back then it was Surf Blue. By the time I finished it and sent him some pics, he had restored the real car and put it back to its original colour of Almond Green. Suffice to say, my version will remain blue. lol
Cheers, Steve.

Cheers Steve Well still undecided on the chrome bits as yet ..but see what happens Well yesterday I thought I'd wire up the engine and paint a few bits on it The wiring went well fitting the spark plug covers and adding the wires I'll be adding the coil next week as I'll be putting on a protech version , but I think I have made a mistake ..answers on a post card please LOL

Not got a postcard handy but would it be that the firing order is correct but the direction of travel is not? Should be counter-clockwise IIRC. If anyone picks up on that by just looking at your completed model, I'll eat my underpants!!
Engine looks great by the way.

Sean, hows the Mini coming along. I went up and got mine out of the loft tonight as I was posting the BRM pics, I thought I would post the Mini on your thread at the same time. Colour is Surf blue, side windows are replaced with clear card stock. Racing 'bullet' mirrors are scratch built. Model is getting a bit old now, maybe time to start on another Tamiya Mini. Always fancied doing the Britax saloon car racer. Love that striking black and yellow scheme. The background shows current projects, Red Arrows Hawk in 1/48 and AMT '66 Buick Riviera. Regards, Steve.

Guys As it's 50 years of Mini this year, fancy contrinbuting to the Car & Motorcycle SIG table at Telford - a small tribute would seem to be appropriate?
Any other takers?
Cheers Rich

Cheers Rich Im sorry to say Rich that I wont be at Telford this year , but If you are going to Donington I have a fair few models if you need them , But I'd personally hide them at the back ;D And Steve Well not much to show at the moment , but I can say the roof is a total mess , this is because me and tammy tape do not get on at all , as I feel tammy tape is totally useless for masking ie it dosent do the job I masked up the green piping only to find out that the paint got underneath it , I always have this problem other than super gluing it down I can never get this stuff to work for me So now my roof is all white ;D But hopefully I'll have some pictures up later today

Sean, Sorry to hear about your trouble with the roof panel. Not sure how you went about the masking, I painted the blue first as I thought it was easier to mask the thin outer edge. I find the Tamiya tape to be quite useable but it has limitations. Another way to do the edge would be to paint by hand, if you feel confident enough to do it. Rich, hopefully I'll be at Telford if it doesn't clash with a trip to Spain I am planning. If I can make it I will bring a couple of Minis. I am also doing prep on a resin Clubman shell, going to try and do a 1275GT. It would be great to have a few variants in the display. Steve.

Well been a bit off and on with the old Mini , ballsed up the roof so had to redo that , Now I didn't like the Bucket seat supplied with the kit ( Thats Stevieboys fault he sold it to me so I'll blame him ) so I found an old Vauxhall Calibra kit up stairs and choppy choppy sandy sandy got it the right height , but I think it will rub slightly against the side window The kit instructions said the roll bar had to be brown for some strange reason but I decided I'd do mine in metallic black , then I thought after one of those Eureka moments I'd shove some foam padding round them ..So I sprayed some tissue paper black and wrapped it round the roll bar Well last off the decals they came out OK apart they look a bit odd because of the door hinges Thats all for now folks
