I just noticed that Hobby Boss have released a WW2 Italian battleship. Of all the major seafaring nations of WW2 era this is the one least represented . Only thing is this..The kit is under £12 and I have never purchased a Hobby Boss kit in my life. Can anyone advise because at £12 I am a bit ...nervous should we say..

Well thanks for the response guys. I guess then that hobby boss'es output is fairly crude then by the lack of any endorsement from any direction. I'll pass then and wait for a mainstream manufacturer to realise the Italians had a big navy in WW2. As I only do maritime in 1/350th I think I may be waiting a fair while.....

Hi Tim I can only speak for the Hobby Boss aircraft kits that I've bought, but they look alright to me - I've not built any yet. A couple of the Ruttles have built a few and have been mildly impressed. The only adverse comment has been with the simplification of some details. Alfie

Hi Tim. Well I build 1/700 and 1/350 ships and the price by Hobby Boss does seem low, but there Military kits are not bad. I to was wondering, but till someone buy's and tells we will never know lol.

The silence is indeed, I suspect, purely that nobody else has actually bought and built.... Try this link, may be some small help: www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery/ca/it/pola-350-gw/gw-index.htmlThere are suspicions that this kit may not originate with Hobby Boss, but may be a reissue of a Mini Hobby models product. The Trumpeter USS England kit is nice, the Dragon 1/700th kits are quite good but I have no experience of hobby Boss other than their Strv 122 tank which is, how shall we say, a bit lacking in subtlety. But for a mere £12.... John

This is what White Ensign Models say about this ship:
"Hobby Boss have released HB83401 1/700 USS Arizona 1941 (GBP 6.95), HB86501 1/350 USS Arizona 1941 (GBP 17.38) & HB86502 1/350 Pola 1941 (GBP 10.43). The first two are re-issues of the old Trumpeter/Mini Hobby kits, whereas the Pola is an enlarged version of the Tauro 1/400 kit. It's very basic, but it's cheap, and if you want a 1/350 Italian cruiser without paying resin prices, it's the only game in town!"

Thanks guys. I think I will hold off. Trumpeter have been releasing some fairly odd 1/350th kits and there is no reason to think the Italian navy might not get a look in. It was the price that rang alarm bells as such. I know its cheap but also is it worth the problems of trying to add detail to a very basic kit without a library full of research matter to hand?
