Tony
May I first say thanks for organising a wonderful competition and flippin' well done on the award ceremony, it looked a nightmare reading out all those eastern European winners!
I have a query regarding the standard kit class, the example I'll use was in class 3. There was a P-47 (which I think won silver) that had been fully riveted. It was a stunning model and deserved the award however I question that it should not have been in the SK class.
Could I clear up the rules please, can we apply rivets to a model and enter it in an SK class?

Thanks for the comments with regards to the competition and the awards ceremony. the polish guys were really good about my pronunciation and have offered me polish lessons. i must admit i only saw the models in the competition on Sunday morning when it was a little quiet and i did not noticed this particular model. there is always some debate with regards to th SK class in what can be added or not. i am going to go through the information i have collated with regards to SK models and see how the rules can be made more clearer. thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Reading the class definitions an ASC model doesn't have to include any plastic at all, and one class winner made a point of claiming that using PVA glue consitiuted a plastic model.

Steve not wishing to get off the point about Standard Kit class, but in the basic rules it states.
• All models are to be constructed as stated and defined. Metal foil, wood, veneer, paper, cloth, decal or any other material may be used to cover the model to represent a particular finish or to construct detail items. Such coverings or details must be cosmetic and not structural.
and the only classes that allow more other materials other than plastic are.
• Civilian Vehicles Class 46 and Figures Classes 54 to 61 only - due to the preponderance on the market of white metal kits over plastic in these particular areas of the hobby, white metal kits shall be allowed in these classes only.
and there is a condition in classes 63 and 65 with regards to resin and metal.
so your point about having no plastic in the kit should be brought to my attention on the day. the definition of ASC class should be
Any Source Converted (ASC) - This is a model that is built to a specification or variant other than that intended by the manufacturer. Commercial, non-commercial and / or scratch built parts may be used. A change of colour scheme and / or decals shall not constitute a conversion, regardless of any change of designation to the model. A converted model may be detailed to any level desired by the modeller.
does that help or just confuse the issue!!

Hi all,
IIRC, a Standard Kit (SK) can have it's panellines engraved, so I'd think that putting in rivets wouldn't be a problem too? As for rivets standing proud on the surface, there are rivet-decals on the market and since aftermarket decals are allowed in the SK...
As for plastic vs. resin, polyurethane resin is of course a form of plastic, it's just not polystyrene. Some model manufacturers also use ABS, which also is a different form of plastic, although a model from that material is hardly buildable... ;D

Regarding this theme...............Could a model in the competition be eliminated becuase the fuselage structure (interior) was made of steel tubes. My Lysander in Class 21 was made in that way and would like to know if was deserted for this reason....I would use a different material for the next year. Is the only explanation I could find.
Tahnks in advance

Rodrigo
I have spoken to the judges who did your class, they said to me that there were some alignment issues with the upper wing and the engine and therefore despite the beautiful detailing this marked the model down.
If you wish I can pass on your email address to them and allow them to contact you if you wish.
