I was having a chat with one of the technicians at work and knowing that I was a modeller, he asked if there was a model kit available of his car, a Honda Civic Type R? We had a quick browse on Ebay and found the kit he was looking for, I offered to build the kit if he ordered it and left the thought with him. Well, he went home that evening, came back into work the next day and asked if I could build a model of his car? ... why not? ... I offered to get the kit for him and put it to one side of the workshop intending to start it after Christmas. However, SMW has been and gone, so, time to get back in the saddle and build something, Andy's car. Here's the real thing ... ... and here's the kit I sourced from the Internet ... ... it's the 1/24 Fujimi Honda Civic Type R, kit #03539. The kit parts are really crisp and looking through the kit parts, I don't forsee any problems. So, over the next couple of weeks, I hope to build the car and hand it over to Andy just in time for Christmas, more soon.

Nick you'll want to take a trip to Halfords for the silver paint as they were doing it if not the Audi silver is a pretty close match. I think I still have some photo etched badges for this kit somewhere in the shed if I can find them I'll send some to you, they even have the correct red background as a decal.

A quick hour in the workshop tonight and I decided to concentrate on painting the engine before adding any further parts ... ... I painted the engine in Humbrol Aluminium and then flashed the painted area with Vallejo matt black, just to dull the appearance. I've also added the front suspension struts to the chassis and the front cross member assembly. This is a superb kit and just slots together, more soon.

watching this one with interest Ayup Ricardo! ... It's a nice kit and something relatively simple to construct. I think the only intense item with the build will be the stitching on the seats, I also have to black out the rear quarter light windows to simulate privacy glass. After this it's a truck ... well, after the 1:1 build on the kitchen.

How are you going to black out the windows? Tamiya smoke or I learnt at the weekend Alclad smoke is the 'new black'?
Cheers Rich

I prefer the Alclad version, sprays straight from the bottle and gives a proper graduated finish. As long as you remember that it dries darker than it looks you'll go far.

did your mate get his present Nick Well erm ... actually ... Steve, no! I asked him for the paint code and he promised to get it and then he was off ill, and then it was Christmas and ... well, I saw him today and the paint is on the way. Just as soon as I have that and find a few minutes to myself I'll be back in the workshop and beavering away. One of the other technicians at the dealership has asked if I could build a model of his Celica? ...
