When this film was produced in 1951 I was 1 year old, strewth ... now I feel old actually typing that. Anyway, I visited the Modelzone in the Broadmarsh, Nottingham this afternoon, I took the latest 'Beyond the Box' build to show the staff after the manager gave me a few bits and pieces he was throwing out the last time I was there. Anyway, back on subject. During a conversation with the manager Alex, he just happened to mention that he was a huge science fiction fan and he had a kit he wanted building, well, he's been good to me so I offered to build it for him. Well, when he showed me what it was ... ... it's a superb kit and so simple. Produced by Pegasus in 1/350, kit number #9011. I'll post a couple of build pics as I progress, the rocket will be painted in Alclad polished aluminium. I also need to practice my weathering skills for the base and pylons for the launching ramp. More soon.

I thought I'd do something different this weekend, time to get this kit out and start it, more later.

Jon, this is a subject I wouldn't have considered ordinarily, but it's for someone who's asked me to build it. Looking at the detail set it could turn this kit into a very interesting build, thanks for sharing. Well, after about 30 minutes, the main fuselage is assembled (3 parts), the launch ramp (6 parts) and the launch sled (3 parts). I'll let the fuselage set before adding any further parts to it but there will be a small amount of filling along the seams and then a slight amount of re scribing on the horizontal panel lines. Here's the progress so far ... ... tea time!

WOW! This is one to follow. Shall watch with interest. It's a superb kit Jim, not many parts but the fit of parts is excellent. I've had to do a spot of filling on the main fuselage half's but that's not exactly hard work, I may have to do a bit of rescribing on the hatch lines but that's not a major job. Just finished up cleaning the fuselage filler and fitted the front wings and rear fins, there's a little filling and subsequent cleaning of the wing roots. Pics to follow later.

hi nick, it just needs blue touch paper to finish it off cheers ian Hmm! ... not quite Ian, a bit to do yet. Here's the progress for today ... ... the wings have been attached as have the rear fins and slide. I've added filler to the wing roots and sanded it smooth, also had to add filler along the length of the top fin on one side, a little dab of filler here and there on the rear fin section. All that's left to add are the rockets for the underside of the wings, and it's ready for paint. The launch platform requires filling on the pylons where they attach to the launch ramp, not a major job just a little time consuming, but it will all be worth it in the end. This has been a superb kit to work on, I hope I can do it justice with the painting, more soon.

Hi Nick, Looking good so far you definatley need some shade/grades of talus & undergrowth to give the base some interest the undergrowth to break the edge of the title plaque especially & tone it down to blend in .. it'll bring it together
