Got mine today!! Decals in perfect register with maybe a slight bleed out from the pin-striping. Probably the best Union Flag decals I’ve ever seen! All 35 AND 9 reliefs on the sheet. 20 sides of instruction booklet, page 19 colour photos (could have been edited a little). Page 20 colour painting instructions. Waterline cut line on hull for that option and some may think the mouldings a little soft – but heck, it looks corking just sitting there in the bag!!! Rich

Got mine at the Scottish Nationals, so did Spike. Now then, a suitable diorama and figures?

Figures, 1/72 U-boat crew (modified) (or not) perhaps?

Don't be coy - go for it! Once you've done one mad thing with a kit you'll be hooked for life, it's great fun. A pair of torpedo tubes or even a teensy missile launcher, some outrageous splinter camouflage in pale blue, pink and greys and you're away. [glow=red,2,300]Resistance is useless![/glow] John

I bought mine about a month ago, it looks like it'll be a real gem of a kit. The box is well built, not like the old series 1/2/3 Airfix lid and tray boxes that can collapse when under severe stash pressure! I'm not building mine until the Lifeboat GB on the ATF, I've got a model railway and plenty of other stuff to build in the mean time. Looks like Hornby/Airfix are really getting their rear end in gear, I can't wait for the Nimrod!

Hate to be the harbinger of doom chaps........but, the kit ain,t what it appears to be. Mine is now at the built into sub assemblies and primed stage. And what a trial it was to get that far! Without being unfair to Airfix, ten out of ten for choice of subject but about three out of ten for planning and buildability. Whilst the parts are well moulded, their fit is not very good. I,m going to persevere with the project because I think it deserves it, and that an attractive and detailed model can be built from it. But I would have happily paid more for it if the additional effort in the kit design and planning had been more thorough. Happy to share further musings on it as I progress, and would like to here from you chaps as you build yours.

I started mine last week, decided to do a 'Full 'ull' model like the yanks do. References are fairly scarce but this site www.rnli.org.uk/Shorething/Youth/Tour/lifeboatmenu.aspx has a virtual tour of the object in question and is a superb reference. Main gripes so far:- 1. Lack of positive locators for the hull pieces. This is a right pain. 2. Poor painting guide. Only Humbrol paints mentioned and those by number only. Great if you have a paint guide, rubbish if you don't. 3. Almost total lack of detail painting instructions. Without this site, mine would have gone back in the box. 4. Uses masking tape like it's going out of fashion. Make sure you get loads in. I'll post some photos later for further amusement. Oh and Melvyn, 60P goes to the RNLI from your purchase money. It's got to be worth it just for that. IAN

I started mine about a month ago, and after sevearl attemps gave trying to fit the hull peices together, also some logic to the part numbering on the sprues would have been heplful, it seems that they threw the whole lot up in the air and pot luck where the pieces landed. I,m still looking for part 8, i must be going blind.
