well mine is now virtually finished. Its finally made it into one piece. I,ll post some piccies tomorrow when I,ve completed it. Despite my frequent rantings on its failings, it looks quite good now. But pointers, other than those previously mentioned, for other potential hapless victims of this kit as follows:
The decals are cack, even on a gloss surface, with loads of setting solution they silvered and refused to conform. The mast assembly is vague and a right pain to put together. No locators for any of it!!! Several missing bits overall, watch out Airfix, I,m on my way for replacements!!! Final one, do not under any circumstances be hoodwinked into thinking that you might be able to lift off the superstructure to see the interior. The railings fit won,t allow it. This is additional to the fact that you are likely to wreck the deck detail (if not the entire model in temper!!)etc in trying to replace it afterwards. this begs the question, why the interior detail in the first place Airfix? I would rather have had more effort put into the assembly design than have all the internals provided. Once its together you can,t see any of it anyway!!!
To finish on a plus point, it will look reasonably good on display next to my Revell subs in the same scale, and it will be getting the Revell Hermann Marwede and Arkona models as display companions for next years shows. Good effort Airfix, but could do better as the final report goes!!
