That is quite something! How do you keep it from warping - is the plastic quite thick, or are there lots of compartments and alignment pins inside? anthony p.s Had to rephrase this message a few times - everything I was going to say/ask just had unintentional innuendo dripping from each phrase (see what I mean!)

Three or four internal bulkheads and a very sensible construction sequence serve to keep it very strong.

As much as I haven,t got the room either I still went out and got one!!! Now completed, it sits on our bedroom window sill, being the only place large and flat enough to put it. My Revell Uboats take up the rest of the room. Anyone got a free mooring handy for when I build the new Italeri PT Boat?
If you really want to get good at marriage counselling, buy the squadron signal book on the Gato, and show the better half the picture of the ten subs parked up around the tender ship post war. Then propose to her that you intend to build this as a diorama in 1/72 scale. My wounds have just about healed now..............
Seriously the Gato is a superb model, far better than the uboats in the same scale. Build quality is better, detail is crisper, and its HUGE!!!!!!!

I was looking at one of those at SMW. I was thinking the same, "it can't be that big", then my lad saw the measurements on the box, so I figured I'd give it a miss!!!! My good lady wife would have bust a vein if I showed up with that under me arm. Mark

more likely bust several of yours................
I got some life threatening looks when I brought the Elco PT boat in the door after SMW. Its official though, that kit is the biggest box in my stash! Even bigger than my Revell Hermann Marwede. Herself keeps muttering about something to do with 'size issues'. Can,t think what she means............

I have to admit taking an immediate liking to the Italeri PT Boat, but I just can't justify it this side of SMW 2008. I have several projects I want to tackle ASAP including the Trumpeter BR52 loco, a couple of trucks for the Truck SIG, Ted's promised Phantom and at least one model for the Wallace & Gromit lunacy...
... get the picture?
