Paul, if you want to get rid of those awful plastic tyres, I've got several rubber ones you can replace them with.

Actually in my view the plastic tyres look OK painted properly from anywhere further away than 4 inches!

Hi Nick That is a nice pice of kit with the SLTE (I think it is called) "side loading transfer equipment or whatever the Bundeswehr call theirs. We had a couple of DAF's 8x6 kitted out with the SLTE kit and I only ever saw it a couple of times in action in the whole time I was in the TA so never got pics of it. Would love to see how you and Paul tackle your builds of these Mercs to get ideas for when I get mine started. Definitely sticking with a tractor low loader combo for it though. s212.photobucket.com/albums/cc229/okdoky/Army%20Merc%206x4%20and%20king%20low%20loader/When you reckon on doing your Merc Nick? You going to tag - team Paul. I am sure you could rattle yours up quickly. Though not as speedy as speedy gonzales Paul here. Paul Are you making your steering a working set twin stear or is it just dry fitted for now? Is there also going to be a heavy duty hiab at the back of the cab? Nige

Hi Nige,
The steering will be fixed on this one, the lincages are there but as i cut the wrong bit and slipped with the glue it aint gonna move lol.
No crane either, it will have some storage boxes and the fuel and air tanks are there to.

Ayup Nige, it'll be a while, possibly towards the end of the year, I've got several builds planned for this year and I've not even got the kit yet.

I think that second steering axle is a bit too far forward?
On the picture at the start its closer to the drive wheels?
Just curious..

Is it possible the suspension for that axle alone might be air bag with capability of raise or lower? Would that mean that it could be a half spring or cantilever action rather than a full leaf?
All three rear axles do look equal space in the pic but Paul does say he is only using the truck as a basis for his build.

Italeri 793 is on ebay as we speak standing at a measly £16 at the moment. Up to £25 with 20 hours to go ... nail biting stuff?
