Seems I'm not the only modeller to be dragged into GW vision of a dark future for humanity here. As it would appear that this genre may be swallowed whole by the figure modellers for the 'grunts' and the AFV 'treadheads' for the vehicles I thought it might be nice to stake a claim for the Sci Fi modellers here since 40k IS a sci fi subject! ;D
I have at present a dreadnought awaiting priming plus a Heavy weapons gun team of the Imperial Guard. I confess that Necrons are a fave of mine however. If anyone has any tips regarding Tyranid painting I would appreciate some input!

Tim - the Treadheads are coming - I got a serious fright when I opened the Warhammer 40k Leman-Russ tank. Every bit as good as Dragon and Tamiya, and they say these are for kids.. If this is Sci-Fi then count me in ;D

Howard, I'll tell you up front that all the kits are a very high standard across the whole of the product range! If you enjoy the Leman Russ try a few of the other kits they do such as the sentinel. Not a tank but loosely based on the load lifter that was in Aliens crossed with other films such as Star Wars AT ST. Seems a simple kit at first until you start on the variants!
GW have raised the game for modelling and have backed their product like few other companies ever have. They can be considered the modern day version of the Airfix stuff of years ago but with the added bonus of product support 'to the hilt' from the GW network.
It has to be said that Forgeworld stuff is VERY good. I have slapped together one of their Tau gun drones so far. Very impressive when set along side a Tau battlesuit model! I have ideas of building a tarantula las cannon unit next. I'll be letting Ian have a copy of this for the mag and see if we can't get a bit of notice in the IPMS. Not really a multi part kit but also have a Sythed Heirodule Tyranid and a Spore chimney to build yet!

My wallet is currently hiding! I've just seen Forgeworlds winged hive tyrant!!!! Oh drooooool!!!
I see what you mean Tim - It's all too much man... Mind you some of the numbers read more like my entire modelling budget for the year - still they are all well special and they've got me thinking. As I'm a confirmed 'real' treadhead - that's a big admission ;D

Heads up all on a little discussion I had with my GW 'pusher' (Well, he feeds my habit, so what else is he? ;D ) I am informed that any discount we might get would be very high up the chain contact wise. Even GW employee's aren't given discount! They work in the candy store and still have to pay full whack!
Ok, So i'm resurrecting this thread for a purpose! GW are on a 'push'. Recently the rule book for 40K was updated and in relation to this there have been a few new releases. It seems the main drive is currently within the Space Marines section with more 'gothic' looks being given to the range and established boxed teams, such as the HQ groups going on sale. Reason for my post is one box in particular. Battle for Macragge. Can't really say that it rates as a model for old timers. The units are all snap fix types though the detail is good. This boxed set is designed as a starter set for playing 40K and includes a fairly comprehensive set of rules and introductory senario booklet that introduces the game bit by bit. What is present is a set of dice and measuring markers for movement and weapons. The set includes a new sprue of possibly GW's oldest 'villain' the Genestealers, in a new cast pose! The crashed spaceship is also a new item and very nice it is too. Check out GW site for further details!
Hey Tim, sorry I have been so absent but, let's face it, this forum is pretty dead. I have been heavily involved in getting my Strategy Games club set up at college. I now have 14 members with about 16 armies between us, mostly 40K stuff.
I am currently working on my Harlequin army, including some rather nice (If I may speak so about my won work) Harlequin jetbikes with sculpted Dragon Heads for the main hulls.
As I say i got tired of posting things in here with no responses. (Check my updates thread for instance)
For those who don;t know I was over the moon when Vogon 1 got first place and editor's choice on SFM:uk
Hi Paul, I've brought some pit props to support this part of the forum! ;D
Nice to hear your club is up and running! I did post congrats on the Vogon thread and a question on the NX-01 thread that you probably haven't seen.
Back to the chase. I've been 'distracted' by the politics and not enough by the models, but the longer nights are on us and its time to indulge!
Heads up for your Tyrannids players. Macragge contains some nice new genestealers in a better pose than before. Rumour has it that they are getting a new lease of life and not before time too. I don't think it will spill into the rest of that army yet though. The Space marines are likewise getting a makeover with additional 'bits' to get a more 'Gothic' look. I haven't seen the results yet, so will let you know. Meanwhile I am expecting the arrival of 'Dawn of war' computer game. Based on 40K rules it allows you to brush up your skills against the PC. I'll put a personal review on here when I have knocked myself silly with it.
Meanwhile, I haven't forgotten that I owe several reviews, and those are in the pipeline.
