Just a quick query about the Aerobatic Display Teams SIG .... Is nobody doing anything with this site any more?? - I only found reference to the group completely by accident whilst browsing another site and, as this subject is my main interest in modelling, thought 'Oh Goody!! .... but then ..... massive dissapointment ... The last bit of news on the board was from what I take to be the Administrator, saying nothing had been updated through pressure of work . but that was 16/03/05?!? and nothing since!! .. with all due respect!! if he's under that much pressure, shouldn't he pass the reigns to someone who has more time available?? - From what I could see from the photo's etc on the site, it seems like a place I could be really interested in. So, hopefully someone will come back with some encouraging news. Tony R

Hello Tony, I'm in Perth at the moment at the Scottish Nationals and members of the Aerobatic Display SIG are attending the show, I'll pass on your request to the SIG members in the morning, hope that helps?

Tony, thanks for your observations about the website, yes I realise that it's woefully out of date, the member concerned has had serious problems over the last few years and has had to take a back-seat role, further attempts to update it have been fruitless as he holds all the passwords. As the Leader of the SIG I take full responsibility for this and apologise. I also got a message from Julien explaining that you were interested in us, so please contact me directly! If you have any questions ask away Best regards Phil Adams

Hi Tony - et al....
Hands in the air.... it's entirely my fault that the ADTSIG website hasn't been updated for years. I created it originally, when I did my first "tour" as SIG Leader. Although I have done two seperate "tours" as ADTSIG Leader, I am currently merely (lol) a SIG member.
"Pressure of work" as I put it, has only gotten worse since then - however, I have always maintained that one day, I would get around to updating our website again... as indeed I still intend to do... one day.... "With all due respect", I *could* have just taken the website down altogether.
There are a basic set of Rules, but most aspects of being/running a SIG, the way they are run and what they do and offer members, is "voluntary" and really down to the SIG Leader. There is no "requirement" that SIGs should have a web presence - the fact is, we *have* - albeit well out of date - but it's still there and is still a valid point of contact to the SIG. If it was just few "Contact", "Join us" and "Model Gallery" pages and there were no "News" items listed on the site, it's doubtful most viewers would realise that it was out-of-date.... But it would still serve its purpose of being a "shop window" and point-of-contact for the SIG... as indeed it does. So if you *had* clicked on the "Email SIG Leader" button, we would have got an email from you.
I created the first ADTSIG website way back in 1997 : Going back *that* far, (in terms of Internet "technology" anyway), the website is quite "old-fashioned" insomuch as everything is registered in *my* name, under my own *personal* web/email account and it's resides on my own *personal* webspace. That, I hope, explain's Phil's comment about me "holding all the passwords" - it's not that I am stubbornly refusing to divulge them, it's because they are for all my *personal* accounts.
In the last few years, there has been some interest from one or two SIG members in taking on the website, but in view of the "personal" nature of the domain name registration and how it's all hosted, it makes things a little awkward - and incurs costs - to transfer the SIG website and Domain name to a "standalone" site... hence it has so far, remained with me.
Having said all that, the ADT SIG is still very alive and well - and still thriving with members and personal friends all over the world: We still attend UK model shows, including our biggest party of the year, Scale Modelworld : We also still try to visit at least one overseas model show each year too - something we have done since 1996, displaying at model shows in France, Germany, Belgium - and Scotland, several times : And we still publish our newsletter, "Smoke On... GO !", which contains all the interesting stuff that no longer gets updated on the website. So there's still plenty to be interested in with the SIG, irrespective of whether the website is updated - or even existed.
If you had contacted the ADTSIG via the email contact on the SIG website, you would have still been in touch with us and we could have explained all this to you - as well as answering any other questions and explaining about joining the SIG.
I see you say you have now been in direct contact with Phil, our current Leader, so I hope he's also managed to answer any other queries you might have had and also hope you will be joining us.
Just thought I'd better try to explain this from the point-of-view of the only person *able* to answer this in this public Forum.... me ! :-)

I'm not a "New Member" of the Forum, as it says.... it seems because it's so long since I last logged on here to post something, the Forum has forgotten me... so I've had to recreate my account !! lol

Hi Gary, Thanks for the (very!) complete explanation re the ADTSIG website. I have to apologize if I seem to have overstepped the line by asking what had happened to the site, and not using the proper buttons & bells provided to make contact. I put this down to the fact that, unlike yourself, I am a 'newbie' and (still) don't quite know my way around all the nooks & crannies this site contains. From my point of view that's quite nice, because I'm still finding 'new' bits each time I come on here! but I was not intending to be critical just inquisitive. From your post I can quite understand the problems regarding the transfer of control to the site, and as you say, if it were not for the 'News' section I probably wouldn't have even been aware the site needed updating in the first place. What I will say is, from what I saw of the site, with all the pic's & different sections etc, it would be a real shame not to bring it back up to date and continue with it, because you have built a cracking good site and something to be proud of.
Tony R.
