Folks,
Firstly ... I'd like to see the forum divided up, else I think it will be messy without some structure. I'd suggest as starters
* Completed Builds
* Questions (and Answers!?)
* Reviews (Kits, Decals, etc)
* Chat / Other (Ideas, suggestions, comments re /144)
So, fairly simple, but self-explanatory - I hope.
Secondly ... Something I'd really like as a modeller who is now dabbling outside my specialist (ho-ho) subject (Harrier) is to turn kit paint references into a workable / understandable list of paints to use. I'm not asking for the useful, but sometimes inaccurate, conversion matrices that take one manufacturer's paint colour / reference and match to another, but a list of paints used by people when they build their model. Doesn't matter who made the paint, just list it (Manufacturer / Colour Name / Reference). This is then a starting point for people to judge if its good enough for them, or a place from which to springboard, etc to what they deem to be the right paint. Where "right" is subjective, of course.
For example, for the B2 Spirit I built, I used
Life Colour UA022 - Dark Grey / Gunship Grey - main scheme
Revell 36106 - Tar Black - wheels, leading edges
Humbrol 33 - White - u/c
Humbrol 75 - Bronze Green (weapons).
Now they may not be accurate, but if I look at someone's model and say "I can live with that", I know which paints to get and the likely result, as opposed to some of the guesswork and re-interpretation you have to do from instructions, some of which are just plain wrong, even if they list an FS/BS number (e.g., Revell seem to love mixing paint).
Yes I know we could look at the equivalent kits (1/72, 1/48, etc) and see what they say, but they may not be the same scheme, or the modeller may feel the scale effect means the paint ought to be different. So am I being lazy, possibly - but this scale for me is fun and I'd like to spend the time on the model, not on the research.
Thoughts?
