Anyone who visited the Beyond The Box stand at Huddersfield will have seen my "as per kit" Routemaster RML (although it's green). When I've applied the cream stripe I'll post a piccy. They will also have seen the early gestation of my next project, an articulated double-decker based rather loosely on something that was alive in Calcutta in 1995, and possibly still is. I had taped various bits of bare plastic together, and drawn on them to show what my intentions were, then perched it on the back of my chosen tractor unit: a Merc 1628s already converted into a Serbian FAP. I asked Heritage Photo Archive for permission to publish a link to their picture of the real vehicle, and Ken Howarth very kindly sent me the actual photo by e-mail, without the watermark. Because of the method of posting, I can't really forward it, but here's the address. heritagephotoarchive.co.uk/p220281241/h2e86cc7e#h2e86cc7e Why not take a look at the rest of the site whilst you're there? I have now cut and pieced the outer side panels, more to follow in due course.

[/img]I now have some pictures on Photobucket, so here's my first attempt to show a couple to you. Some time ago I came across an internet article by someone who had converted a Mercedes truck into a FAP, and I decided to do likewise. He had used a 3-axle sleeper cab, and modelled a more modern version of the Serbian vehicle. I went for an earlier-style front, with a 2-axle daycab. When I saw a Calcutta articulated double-decker bus, I combined the idea of the FAP with Revell's Routemaster, and this project is well under way. Here is the finished cab. Meanwhile, during a recent bout of illness which laid half my family out for over a week, I couldn't really concentrate on this project, so I settled on something less demanding. I picked up an Isuzu "Bonnet Bus" at the Huddersfield show, and here it is. I'm not really into 1/32, but it's rather cute.

There should have been some text with that last post. I don't know why it failed to print, so here it is. I now have some pictures on Photobucket, so here's my first attempt to show a couple to you. It does rather look as if someone tried to get it through my gateposts. No, I won't be replicating the traffic damage, I like my vehicles straight out of the paintshop. Besides, mine is not a true copy, just based on the concept.

I've been distracted by non-modelling problems, but I'll be resuming this week. The left side panel has a new forward doorway just behind the 'step', and I'm cutting the floor, lower panel and subframe to suit. The larger underfloor objects have been removed (gearbox, fuel tank, etc) but I'm leaving the differential housing in place: I imagine that someone converting a life-size bus into a trailer might be tempted to do the same. That's my excuse, anyway. Now I need to cut the lower ceiling/upper floor (rear section) to length, and make a 3/4 height bulkhead to support it at the 'step'. More news as it happens.
