I've been asked to build this kit as a post war vehicle and I'm looking for a suitable conversion subject, this could be a wrecker, emergency vehicle or ... ?
Does anyone have photographs of a suitable vehicle or possibly you could recommend a publication containing conversion examples?

No info for you Nick on a conversion but I have just got this kit, really appealed to me. Have you started on it yet?

Not got it as yet, the Revell Krupp Titan came in the post first, apparently it's the most important build of the two kits. The Henschel will be following in due course.

Just started work on this Nick. It is a very, shall we say 'engineered' kit!
I suspect once you have built the kit, putting a real one together from bits would be no problem. Having issues with the instructions re the stages though. It shows the chassis being fully built with the exhaust system going on quite early as other parts then go over it. Not easy to paint the exhaust in situ so it will be quite a bit of build, paint, build, paint etc. Not a criticism just more complex than say a Tamiya chassis. Other thing is the plastic is quite brittle and lots of very fine pieces so care is needed (as it should always be) in cutting them off. I have already destroyed the starting handle.........
Also, the multi part chassis needs to be square and it has no jig or any component that will lock it into place. I ended up using the old carpenters trick of measuring the diagonals to the ends of the side rails and moving them until the two measured exactly the same, that is when it is square.
Loads and loads of parts which are very nicely moulded for an old ICM kit, should build into a really nice looking truck. I need to go and read through your 'Blitz' builds now to get some tips, never really done a truck before and this is becoming a baptism of fire yet in a nice way :-)

Graham I'll look out for you at Cosford, if I can be of assistance in any way, please ask. I've found a really interesting conversion for the Henschel ... more news on that when the Krupp is finished.

Sorry Nick, won't be at Cosford.... doubt I will ever get there lol. Interested in the conversion you have planned, looking forward to seeing it started.
Been looking at your 1:24 Blitz, oddly enough, I ordered the same book, the AK Interactive DAK painting, this morning before I read your thread. Hope the book is OK as you didn't mention it again.
I like the idea of salting the chassis, looks very effective.

The book is worth having Graham, makes an excellent read. As I mentioned previously, if I can help in any way, just ask.

Thanks Nick, I received the book in this mornings post and am quite impressed with what can be achieved. Got off to a good start today with the chassis completed and most of the bodywork in sub sections done. Still appears to be hundreds of bits to go on it somewhere though lol.
Once I get to the painting stage, I believe I will be giving you a shout Nick, thanks for the offer :-)

Not a problem Graham, if I can help with anything just let me know. Incidentally, I asked at Avid Reader today whilst I was at Cosford, there's nothing available in the form of reference material for the Henschel. I wonder if I'll find anything at Beltring in July?

Material does seem a little thin on the ground Nick.. Even watched a couple of the Afrika Korps History Channel programs the other night, never spotted the one!!! Anyway, I will be going with an DAK scheme. Not much progress over Sunday but I have got it all primed and in Tamiya German Grey as the base coat. May give the upper body parts a dusting of Revell Aqua 'Dust Grey' to lighten them up a bit before the hairspray goes on. The main Yellow will be Tamiya Dark yellow either lightened with Desert Yellow or just white, need to experiment on that yet.
One really nice touch with this kit is that the windscreen frame with wipers is a separate part which the glazing fits into which will help enormously.
Not sure how to finish the windscreen frame though. Would it be painted metal or would it originally been a plated finish like cars? Will be painted over in yellow anyway but I was wondering what it would chip back to. I am guessing it would still be the grey original paintwork.

Ayup Graham, if you Google Henschel 33d1 and view images, there are several good photos of the 1:1 vehicle.
