Hello Everyone, I stopped modelling when I was about 15. I think I discovered the delights of spending more time with the girls rather than laboring over a modelling work bench. I am now back after convincing "She who must be obeyed" that it was worth spending money on all the things I "Needed" but could never afford as a kid, I rushed out got a compressor, a couple of airbrushes and as many accessories that I could fit into the budget I had been given. I could never afford 1/148 scale so I decided that this would be my scale of choice. I am a barrister by profession, married with 2 grown boys and have a passion for WWII especially Battle of Britain. Having been away so much has changed and I have so many questions. I have joined IPMS (UK) but have not attended a show. I tried to get hold of the local Modelling society in Milton Keynes but no one has come back to me. I am currently working on an old Airfix kit - me262. I bought a cockpit interior and I am a bit at a loss as what where to start. There are no instructions. I also want to have an open canopy and rather than fork out for a vac-form replacement I wonder if anyone has any advice on splitting the canopy? I am also trying to find someone in the USA where I can buy a bottle of Future Shine and have Lamar mail it to them and they can mail it onwards. Happy to pay for the costs, Walmart won't mail to the UK That's it for now. Regards Sean

Hello Sean and welcome to the forum and also welcome back to the hobby. I've contacted the Branch Liaison Officer Phil Cater on your behalf and made him aware of your contact with Milton Keynes.

Hi Sean
I have just dropped a line to IPMS MK on your behalf. Drop me a pm if no response within a week or so.
Meanwhile, you might want to check out the Battle of Britain SIG - they are listed on the 'Network' on the homepage. The Luftwaffe SIG is currently in 'suspended animation' - but I'm hopeful for its return fairly soon when a new SIG leader emerges.
Regarding canopy cutting - a fine hand held razor saw, but go gently, starting from the base of the frame and go slowly to make sure you're aligned! I only know this one from cutting Pucara canopies from time to time. All that insane photoetch in the Special Hobby offering, combined with a one piece poorly fitting canopy kind of forces the issue...
cheers

Hi Sean With regard to your query on acrylic floor wax (Future), then this is part of the TAS Matters column that you'll (hopefully) see in the forthcoming magazine (due towards the end of this month): As you may already know, Johnson's Klear in its original form is no longer available, as it's been replaced by Pledge Multi-Surface Wax. In the course of my research, I came across this website that has everything that you needed to know about acrylic floor wax and its modelling uses: www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html. With regard to instruction sheets, the Society has its own Library which can be accessed via email to Mick Condra at library@ipms-uk.co.uk Hope that helps. Regards, Alfie

Alfie,
We all know there's no Future here in the UK. ;-)
